Bandai Namco has announced Pac-Man World Re-Pac, a remake of the yellow hero’s 1999 3D platforming adventure.

The original game was Pac-Man’s first foray into 3D adventure, with the setup of the dot-muncher hosting a birthday party. Unfortunately, those pesky ghosts have crashed said party before he could get there, and kidnapped Pac’s friends and family. You’ll have to chase them down to Ghost Island to save them and face off against Ghostly boss Toc-Man.

Of course, the remake means the game’s having a massive visual overhaul to drag it forward 23 years. But that’s not the sole improvement, with intuitive gameplay improvements and new features promised. The package includes a Quest Mode, a Maze Mode and even the entire classic maze-munching game in Original Mode when you complete the game.

The main campaign, Quest Mode, will see Pac solving environmental puzzles and collecting items through six levels. They’re themed as was the tradition for 3D platformers back then, such as pirates, space, funhouse, mansion and factory. There’s bosses to beat at the end of each level too. Luckily Pac’s got a range of moves to help him over just your standard movement. These include a butt-bounce, rev-roll, hover jump and more.

You can check out a trailer for the game for yourself down below. Pac-Man World Re-Pac arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on August 26, 2022.
