Sony recently launched its revamped PlayStation Plus service, giving subscribers three separate tiers to choose from. Out of all the three new PlayStation Plus tiers, the highest-priced option is PS Plus Premium, the big selling point of which is access to retro games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 libraries.

PS Plus Premium gives PlayStation 4 and 5 gamers instant access to a variety of classic games, including many first-party Sony titles. But PlayStation libraries have often been defined by third-party releases just as much as they have first-party games. To that end, some classic Japanese franchises associated with the PlayStation brand are well-represented in the PS Plus Premium tier, like Capcom's Resident Evil and Square Enix's Final Fantasy.

As far as Final Fantasy goes, there are currently six main series Final Fantasy games available for PS Plus Premium subscribers to check out with their subscription. Most of these were previously available to play through the defunct PlayStation Now service, added without a removal date, so fans will likely have access to them for quite some time to come.

List of Final Fantasy Games on PS Plus Premium

Final Fantasy 10 Iconic Tidus
  • Final Fantasy 7
  • Final Fantasy 8
  • Final Fantasy 9
  • Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster
  • Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age
  • Final Fantasy 15: Royal Edition

The first six Final Fantasy games were Nintendo exclusives, releasing on the NES and Super Nintendo systems. However, Square made the jump to PlayStation when it released Final Fantasy 7, which started a trilogy of classic PS1 JRPGs. Now with PS Plus Premium, PS4 and PS5 gamers can revisit the classic Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy 9 games, but with some added enhancements that weren't available in their original releases.

These enhancements include quality-of-life features like speeding up battles and utilizing cheat codes, for instance. These classic PS1 Final Fantasy games also have trophy support through these re-releases, which is great news for trophy hunters.

When Final Fantasy fans have had their fill of the PS1-era FF games, they can move on to the PS2 offerings. MMO Final Fantasy 11 is not part of the package, but subscribers are free to check out Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster as well as Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. Like the PS1 Final Fantasy games, these are enhanced ports, so fans can enjoy a variety of improvements when compared to the original releases.

And finally, Final Fantasy 15: Royal Edition is part of the PS Plus Premium lineup, though it should be noted that this game is also available through the PS Plus Collection. PS Plus subscribers can claim the game through PS Plus Collection so it will be theirs to keep as long as they are subscribed to the PlayStation Plus service.
