Tencent Reveal New Wuxia Adventure Code: To Jin Yong

Gaming giant Tencent just wrapped up its annual conference and the headline news is that players can expect a huge new martial arts game called Code: To Jin Yong

Revealed as part of the 44 products and projects on presented during Tencent’s SPARK 2022, Code: To Jin Yong is the headline news to come out of the massive show. Based on the acclaimed series of martial arts (“wuxia”) novels by famed novelist Jin Yong, this reveal shows off a gorgeous new world. Renders using Unreal 5 and developed by Lightspeed Studios, this upcoming title will feature classic characters in Jin Yong’s masterpiece, such as Yang Guo, Qiao Feng, and Linghu Chong as they fight their way through unsurmountable odds and overcome deadly adversaries.

While we don’t know a huge amount about the full and finished product, it will be fully realized in Unreal 5, making this project a stunning introduction to these tales when it goes global. Tencent has promised that this will recreate spectacular martial arts techniques through the engine’s underlying physics system while providing a huge open world for exploration. Sounds a lot like Blade & Soul but maybe a tad more modern.

Alongside the impressive trailer, which you can see above, Tencent also dropped some big news on its own cloud gaming architecture. START ENGINE showed off a demo of Evolution, using a new native cloud game technology. In the demo, players are brought back to the era of dinosaurs in a movie-level, real-time interactive scene with ultra-fine rendered dinosaurs and dense woods. Native cloud-game technology organically supports synchronization for multiple players.

To check out what that means up against the likes of Shadow Tech, the new PS Plus, and Xbox Cloud Gaming head over to the official Tencent website to find out more while we gaze into the gorgeous new Unreal 5 rendered future that awaits.
