Lightspeed Studios has announced it’s working on a new open world RPG entitled Code: To Jin Yong.

The game will be the first open world RPG title for the studio. Previously, the studio has had credits on PUBG: Mobile and Apex Legends: Mobile to its name. We’re promised a “vast, rich and diverse’ martial arts world based on the works of Jin Yong. His ‘wuxia’ martial arts novels have been the basis of over 90 TV shows, comics & games including Bioware’s Jade Empire and Ninja Theory’s Heavenly Sword.

“The game will breathe new life into classic stories with next-generation technology and quintessential Jin Yong soundtracks, providing players with a first-ever 360-degree gameplay experience,” says the blurb. “That will ensure Code: To Jin Yong’s hyper-realistic renditions of well-loved characters remain true to the original novels and honor wuxia elements, while also adapted for modern-day aesthetics. The game will also feature a compelling storyline based on the fan-favorite wuxia series, woven together with suspense, mystery and exploration.”

It’s currently early days, but Lightspeed are making some impressive promises. These include photo-realistic backdrops and the use of Unreal Engine 5 to recreate famous landmarks. The studio will use photogrammetry and similar techniques to make these look as good as possible. They’re also working with martial arts experts to help make moves look authentic. The hope is that the moves will look as close to their original descriptions in the novels as possible.

At the time of writing, there’s no release date or even formats for the game yet. However, there is a proof of concept trailer, which you can see down below. Hopefully we’ll hear more from Code: To Jin Yong in the not-too-distant future.
