Canned food can be eaten and fully utilized without requiring any form of processing, but meat and vegetables are better consumed after they have been cooked. For this, players will have to own clean water and fuel, along with a stove. For the majority of the game, players can collect water with a rainwater collector. However, when winter comes, the device will be frozen and survivors will need an alternative method to get clean water. To handle this issue, players will need to know how to melt snow in This War of Mine.

How To Melt Snow In This War Of Mine

To melt snow in This War of Mine, players have to collect snow in winter and then melt it using the stove. A snow pile should be available somewhere around the shelter when the cold season arrives. Each pile of snow can be processed into 4x clean water, and they can’t be used after the winter passes, so it’s best to farm snow according to one's needs.

After getting the snow, players should open the stove page and craft the clean water. Like collecting rainwater, one filter will be needed to get the final product. However, as it’s winter, players will also need fuel to melt the snow in This War of Mine. On the brighter side, though, this process is much faster than collecting rainwater (which would usually take around five hours).

Unlike with typical meals, upgrading a stove won’t reduce the cost to melt snow in This War of Mine. Therefore, since there’s no way to reduce the required resources, it’s a better strategy for players to stock up on clean water before winter arrives.

What Is Clean Water Used For In This War Of Mine

Depending on the player's play style, clean water can be a crucial commodity. This material can be used to make the following items:

  • Cooked Meal (Stove)
  • Moonshine (Moonshine Still)
  • Herbs (Herbal Garden)
  • Vegetables (Vegetable Garden)

If players are planning to craft and sell moonshine, then it’s a great idea to have multiple rainwater collectors. Having a This War of Mine character with specific skills (like Bruno or Livia) will also significantly reduce clean water consumption for edible items.

Alternatively, players can trade alcohol and cigarettes in the military outpost, as the trader there often has a lot of clean water trades available. Trading cigarettes can be especially profitable during a cigarette shortage.

This War of Mine is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and Mobile.
