Those fortunate enough to have owned a sixth-generation gaming console hold a great deal of nostalgia for the titles associated with them. Due to the improved hardware offered by modern consoles, many have forgotten the classic titles from the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Dreamcast, and GameCube, even though they are arguably the most revolutionary consoles in gaming history.

Today, the video game industry regularly attempts to recapture the magic of these sixth-gen consoles through remakes. A remake can both conjure nostalgia in long-term fans, while also inviting new players to pursue a classic story. Many classics deserve to be remade, but only a few would be truly successful.

10 The Hobbit

Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit

Having since received its own movie trilogy, the 2003 video game The Hobbit is due for another moment in the spotlight. This charming Tolkien retelling documents the entirety of Bilbo's story as he journeys across Middle Earth in the hope of reclaiming the Lonely Mountain for his dwarven companions.

A remake of The Hobbit could incorporate an open world, allowing the player to further explore the medieval land showcased within. A slight graphical update may also be implemented, but many fans believe the visual style of the game attributes greatly to its overall charm.

9 Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone

The announcement of Hogwarts Legacy has revealed that Harry Potter games are still as popular as ever. Since its inception, the wizarding world has been growing more and more popular with each of its entries, so perhaps it is time to remake The Philosopher's Stone.

Released in 2001, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone followed the story of Harry Potter during his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game allowed the player to explore the castle and its grounds while uncovering the magical secrets hidden within. Its confinement to sixth-generation consoles limits its playability, but a remake would allow long-term fans to rediscover their love for the game.

8 The Simpsons: Hit And Run

Radical's The Simpsons: Hit and Run offers what may be the most immersive Springfield experience present in The Simpsons' universe. Set in various locations throughout the iconic town, the story follows the Simpsons family, with the help of Apu, as they attempt to combat an alien invasion.

Largely regarded as the best Simpsons game ever made, fans are extremely eager to see a remake for modern consoles. A remake could follow the same story while also incorporating new levels and playable characters to enhance the overall story, though leaving it unaltered may help preserve its appeal.

7 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Rockstar's San Andreas is arguably one of the most popular Grand Theft Auto releases to date. The narrative follows Carl Johnson, a former member of the Grove Street Families, as he returns from Liberty City to attend his mother's funeral. The release of San Andreas marked one of Rockstar's most innovative and experimental games ever.

Unlike previous entries in the series, this title allowed the player to use jetpacks, swim, form relationships, and pilot remote control helicopters, some of the most baffling video game features ever. Though the series has since repurposed many of these elements in its later titles, the nostalgia held by fans of this game suggests a remake would gain great success.

6 Kingdom Hearts

With Square Enix recently celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, it may be time for the series' debut to receive its long-anticipated remake. Following the character of Sora, Kingdom Hearts documents his journey to reunite with his missing friends.

Marketed as a platformer with a twist, a Kingdom Hearts remake would serve to incorporate the series' now fully optimized means of movement and traversal. It could tell Sora's origin story with the same level of spectacle as the franchise's sequels.

5 Bully

Rockstar's Bully is arguably one of the most visceral depictions of adolescence in gaming. Set in the town of Bullworth, the story follows James Hopkins as he attempts to adjust to his new life as a boarding school student.

A remake could provide Bully with a much-needed graphical update, as well as an improved combat system. Though it can be argued that these minor flaws attribute to the game's charm, improved gameplay in a Bully remake could cement this title as flawless.

4 Shadow Of The Colossus

Fighting a boss in Shadow Of The Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most popular games ever made thanks to its combat mechanics, immersive world, and story. It follows the story of Wander, a young man who must navigate the game's vast wastelands to revive a young woman named Mono.

The hardware capabilities of new systems and consoles could permit a remake to convey the spectacular nature of this title tenfold. With the main premise requiring the player to defeat a series of monstrously large Colossi, a remake could finally present these foes in the limelight they truly deserve.

3 Silent Hill 2

Rumored to be in development, a Silent Hill 2 remake could further enhance the game's fear factor. Set in the desolate town of Silent Hill, protagonist James Sunderland is tasked with locating his dead wife while being constantly pursued by the town's undead inhabitants.

With the town of Silent Hill consisting of an array of magical properties, a remake could serve to fully realize its otherworldly potential. Morphing itself in response to those who visit the town, a remake could present the town itself as a far more frightening entity than it was in the original game's portrayal.

2 Manhunt

rockstar games

Manhunt is possibly Rockstar's most controversial game release to date. Following the story of James Earl Cash, the player must navigate the haunting world of Carcer City wherein they must perform horrific acts in a series of snuff films to earn James his freedom.

Though it may not be for everyone, a Manhunt remake could portray these horrid events in much more grotesque detail than its predecessor was capable of. A high-resolution render of the iconic character known as Piggsy, Manhunt's most terrifying antagonist, could further implement notions of fear into this over-the-top horror game.

1 Final Fantasy 10

Final Fantasy 10 Iconic Tidus

The tale of Final Fantasy 10 is a somber and melancholy one with a bittersweet end. Centered on a young man with a passion for Blitzball, the story documents the life of Tidus as he comes to terms with a new reality.

Though many would argue a Final Fantasy 10 remake would be unnecessary, its once-iconic combat system has since become outdated. Turn-based combat was once an extremely efficient battle system, but fans of the JRPG genre have since grown fond of the more fast-paced styles newer entries now offer. It is time for a Final Fantasy 7 Remake system to be implemented in this cherished fantasy entry.
