Sega and Creative Assembly have unveiled Hyenas, a new multiplayer FPS coming to PC and consoles next year.

The setup puts us in a futuristic world where billionaires have used their wealth to make it to Mars. To do so, they developed a zero-gravity tech that destroyed what was left of Earth and leaving only slums behind. This floating wreckage, known as the Taint, is now filled with pop culture trinkets, which the rich steal for trophies. Naturally, this means it’s time for the poor to rise up and steal it back.

You’ll assemble a ragtag crew known as Hyenas and ransack huge spaceship shopping malls known as Plunderships. The rich have converted these former shopping centre ships into fortresses, filling with nostalgic booty. However, they’ve also fitted them with alarm systems and traps set by the rich to protect their ill gotten gains. It’s you and your crew’s job to ransack the place, snatch the goods and get back out.

Four teams of three squads will be fighting against each other on these maps for guts, glory and the prizes. You’ll have to use your wits, guns and even other crews against each other to escape with the loot. Furthermore, there’ll also be Zero-G areas in each level with floating combat aplenty.

Hyenas also promises plenty of nods to Sega’s past. As part of the whole nostalgic treasure vibe, we’re told it’ll include actually licensed things, like Panini sticker albums, PEZ dispensers and of course, a SEGA Mega Drive. You can check out what to expect in the flavour trailer below.

Sega’s holding a closed Alpha on PC first, which you can sign up for here. Hyenas will then launch proper on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2023.
