Epic rolls out Steam crossplay support

Epic Games has released a suite of new tools to allow cross-play with Steam.

In a blog post, the firm revealed that it had added this functionality to its Epic Online Services offering, meaning that Epic Games Store users can play with their friends on Valve's platform.

The Fortnite maker says that this is the first in a series of new crossplay services that will let developers and publishers connect their games across platforms. Support for console and mobile is coming in the future, seemingly.

"Crossplay gives all friends the opportunity to come together and create fond memories across interactive experiences," Epic Games' senior director of online services Simon Allaeys said.

"We are in the fortunate position to drive change in the industry with crossplay tools for all developers and we believe that connecting friends and communities will take the gaming industry to its next major growth spurt and its next billion players.”
