Taito’s iconic arcade brick breaker Arkanoid is getting an update for an all-new audience on PS5 and PS4 – and yes, Battle Royale is in. Arkanoid: Eternal Battle is being developed by Pastagames, and promises a “fully modernised and revamped version” of the classic. Don’t worry if your heart’s still stuck in the 80s, though – the original will be included alongside an all-new Neo mode.

If you’re into local multiplayer, then there’ll be four-player split-screen available – but it’s online in 25-player Battle Royale where we can see this title shining. Those of you who have Nintendo Switch Online may be familiar with the likes of Tetris 99, and this seems like another smart adaptation of a classic to us. There’ll be full crossplay between consoles as well, so matchmaking should be snappy.

There’s no firm release date right now, but the title’s due out in October, so we expect dates to get locked in over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer above for a rough glimpse of what to expect.
