Former Arkane Lyon director Romuald Capron is working on Darwin’s Paradox, a fifties-style sci-fi platformer.

Capron joined the game’s developer, ZeDrimeTim, to work on the game, after leaving Arkane Lyon in 2021. This will be the new studio’s debut game. It is a platform adventure, inspired by the likes of Limbo and Little Nightmares.

It is “filled with humour and influenced by the Golden Age of the 1950s science fiction and today’s 3D animation feature films.” (Thanks, Eurogamer.) The game will be out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Capron said that he “wanted to get involved in a project on a human scale.” He said that he was “immediately attracted by the art direction and gameplay mechanics.”

And that he was excited “to help the team at ZeDrimeTim, to turn that vision into a game with a strong identity.”

Whatever else we may say about the game, we can’t overlook the tentacular beast in the screenshot above. Because it appears to be attempting to kill another beast, which is inside a glass jar. Also, that pulpy fifties atmosphere is reminiscent of Journey to the Savage Planet, which came out in early 2020. And it was pretty good. This was mainly a result of the fact that it let you boot spherical birds. And then blow them up with a laser.
