Destiny 2 is one of the more popular MMO-styled games on the market right now, known for its in-depth lore, quests, and activities. The game is full of content to be explored, from Public Events that spawn inside game areas to PvE or PvP activities. Although Bungie's instructional tutorial "New Light" enhances the player experience and understanding of game mechanics, there is a lot of information left for players to learn. One such facet is the Seasons of Destiny 2, as while the base game is free for players, its expansions and premium content are not.

Seasonal activities allow players to access new story content, face unique challenges, and unlock gear, with each Season split into two facets: free-to-play and premium content. With 100 tiers divided between free-to-play and premium, the bonuses for both can be seen under the Season Tab in the Director menu. Furthermore, each Season has challenges that change weekly, which grant players additional XP, Mods, Currency, Rank, Weapons, and Armor. For players to participate in all Seasonal content, they must purchase a Season Pass, which gives them access to the duration of the current Season running roughly 10 weeks.

Destiny 2 Seasonal Passes

Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted

To purchase a Destiny 2 Season Pass, players must use an in-game currency called Silver. It costs 1,000 Silver for a Season Pass, which can be bought with real money for $9.99. If players want to play multiple Seasons under the current Year, they need to spend 1,000 Silver every time a Season is released. The current Season 17, Season of the Haunted, lasts from May 24 to August 23.

A Season Pass includes all the content for Season of the Haunted, any given Pass doesn't extend to previous content, which means players cannot access Season of the Risen. While this payment option seems relatively straightforward, new players miss out on previous Seasons with just the current Season Pass, and the same is true for veteran players who may not be able to participate in the full duration.

The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition

Destiny 2 developer Bungie also allows players to purchase the current expansion's Deluxe Edition. The Witch Queen launched in February 2022, encompassing Seasons 16 through 19. The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition offers several unique rewards and access to all Seasons under Year 5, bypassing the1,000 Silver cost every time a new Season begins.

Bungie advertises this Deluxe Edition deal when every new expansion is released. Despite being more costly than the base form of the expansion, at $79.99 rather than $39.99, the Deluxe Edition is a unique way for players invested in Destiny 2 to experience the game's content during its current Year. For new players, it's a definitive way to catch up on what's occurred in the past, giving them access to rewards and story content that veteran players already were privy to. The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition also provides its own set of Exotic Weapons with a Sparrow for players to enjoy.

Destiny 2 offers many exciting challenges for players to embark on, with its Seasonal activities being some of the most popular features. With free and premium tiers accessible to all players, it's easy for new players to miss earlier Seasons during a particular expansion. While the Season Pass provides premium content for the duration of the Season, the Deluxe Edition allows new and veteran players alike to experience all the content an expansion has to offer.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
