Valheim's next major update, Mistlands, has received a further teaser on the game’s steam page. While players patiently wait for this addition to the Viking survival game, they can now look forward to traps, new Mistlands-tier weapons, and a fiery new crafting station.

Valheim was released in February 2021 and was published by Iron Gate Studio. The game drops players into a hostile sandbox world, and it currently features a content roadmap for future updates. There are 5 major bosses in the game across 5 biomes, and that list will likely grow as further biomes are added.

As part of the May 25th message on the event page for the game, Valheim’s development team went into detail about some of the features of the update to come. There have been teasers of this update tweeted out over the past few weeks, and this post is no exception. The most interesting piece of this post is a concept art depiction of a new crafting station. It features a flame on top of the table as well as what looks like a cooling pool for hardening purposes. Other than this, the post shows a pair of enormous animal traps and new fungi for players to pick up. These traps will supposedly be quite useful for catching enemies but will also be able to damage players who walk across them.

Unfortunately, players still do not have an exact timetable for when the Mistlands update will be released, but more teasers might point to the development team getting closer to publication. As far as what a new crafting station means, players will need to craft a whole new set of armor and weapons to take on the challenges of the Mistlands.

Progression through the game is reasonably easy to measure because each biome in Valheim is associated with new and better armor and weapons access. This helps players pace themselves while also permitting full access to the entirety of the map for those looking to explore.

It does, however, mean that while sections of the map are open, traveling through these areas will be exceedingly challenging. Unknowing players or those who find themselves on an island with disadvantageous biomes will likely get frustrated quickly. Noting that, this post bodes well for the development of the Mistlands biome in Valheim.

Valheim is available now on PC.
