There are a whole lot of new vampires running around.

Recently launched into Early Access, Stunlock Studios has announced that V Rising, their new  vampire survival game, has sold over 500,000 copies since that launch on May 17th.

V Rising lets you start your journey as a newly-awakened vampire with a chance to explore, build, and defend, like other sandbox survival titles, but of course, there’s a distinct dark fantasy twist here. While survival games generally involve…surviving…V Rising’s blend of vampire lore and strategic survival elements has clearly appealed to a significant number of players.

Official servers can hold up to 50 players, so you'll be able to join your friends and others who are also trying to make their way. You’ll enter a world filled with, and led by, humans. Those humans can be both a threat and a food source. They are the key to your newly undead existence, as well as your castle, and part of your future. In a dark and ravaged vampire world, the time is ripe for a comeback, and you are looking to stand and build a castle while learning to thrive in this world with your goal to become the next Dracula.

You'll start humbly, without much to your name but you'll be able to rise if you play strategically, hide from the sun, and avail yourself of the real-time PvE and PvP combat. You can raise a castle and also invite friends to join you. As you establish yourself, you'll be able to determine what kind of a vampire you wish to be and whether that means working towards domination or playing in a more diplomatic, community-oriented way.

Stunlock released a press release touting the numbers, and while this is Early Access and they’re still working on the game actively long-term, the numbers are still impressive in a short period of time.
