There’s no doubt many Dragon Age fans are patiently waiting for more information on the upcoming title, but also many understand and want BioWare to take all the time it needs. To say Dragon Age is one of BioWare’s most beloved IPs would not be an overstatement, and this puts a lot of pressure on BioWare to get Dragon Age 4 right.
Recent reports suggest that Dragon Age 4 could be a late 2023 title, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it were a 2024 title instead. Nothing is set in stone, of course, but the wait will hopefully prove worth it. Interestingly enough, this puts it into the same general time frame as GreedFall 2: The Dying World, suggesting the two could be competitors (and competition, of course, is always beneficial).
Dragon Age 4 vs. GreedFall 2
Spiders and Nacon recently announced GreedFall 2: The Dying World, in which players will take on the role of a Teer Fradee native captured and sent back to the Old Continent, Gacane. GreedFall 2 has a unique, colonial fantasy aesthetic, which helps it stand out, but the companions, gameplay, and more is incredibly familiar to BioWare fans. Many called the original GreedFall an honorary Dragon Age title, and it only makes sense that these similarities will be present in the sequel.
Spiders confirmed GreedFall 2: The Dying World’s release window as 2024, so depending on certain variables, the two games could be months apart—if not the exact same month. Either way, checking out both will likely be important to their respective fans, but there’s a strong case for fans to check out both. If a Dragon Age fan has never played GreedFall before, it’s an easy-to-recommend title while waiting for Dragon Age 4. If someone has played GreedFall but somehow not checked out the Dragon Age franchise, then doubly so. Both have the same heart, beyond any other similarities.
Whether it’s in GreedFall’s Gacane or in Dragon Age’s Thedas, there are tons of promising RPGs on the horizon. However, since nothing is really certain about 2023 or 2024 right now, these are easily leading the charge on games that could define the years. Regardless of what else is announced, these are still in that running, and that’s saying something.
Ultimately, how GreedFall 2 and Dragon Age 4 impact each other—if at all—remains to be seen, but competition is healthy and fantasy RPG fans will hopefully have a lot to explore in each game.
