With only a handful of days left inside of Season of the Risen, Destiny 2 players are desperate for new information on what to expect for Season 17. So far, Bungie has opted to keep information such as the name and story elements close to the chest, including the reveal trailer. While most fans probably wouldn't agree with that decision, this isn't new territory for Bungie as there have been times in Destiny 2 history where a new season was revealed and launched on the same day.

Thankfully, not every aspect of Season 17 is a mystery as Bungie has provided new details regarding combat and sandbox changes over the past few weeks in its weekly blog post. The same rang true this week as Bungie revealed sweeping changes to the current seasonal events like the newly renamed summer mode called Solstice. In addition, Bungie also previewed a few more patch notes from next week's update, though knowing how badly people want Season 17 information, the developer couldn't resist adding a little prank.

With the anticipation for Season 17 running very high from the Destiny 2 community, Bungie took an opportunity to throw the fan base for a bit of a loop. Inside of the patch notes, the developer added a section for tweaks to an enemy faction known as the Scorn. The sniper class has been known to cause problems for players, as they're capable of doing significant damage, often unfairly. For those quickly reading through the notes, Bungie seemingly confirmed that the Scorn Sniper received a 300% damage boost to ensure that all players will always be one-shot, no matter how powerful.

Not wanting to send the fan base into a frenzy, the post quickly made sure players knew it was a joke, before confirming that the Scorn sniper damage has been reduced, brought inline with other enemy sniper weapons, while also increasing weapon projectile spread. The news should be a welcome one for those taking on activities like the Throne World's Wellspring or Nightfall Strikes like The Hollowed Lair.

While the season 17 patch notes is expected to be substantial considering all the updates and changes already having been confirmed, the preview this week is also fixing a few fan favorite elements. Each weekend, Destiny 2 features an exotic merchant named Xur, who brings 3 exotic armor pieces, 1 exotic weapon, and a slew of Legendary gear for a limited time. Xur is supposed to leave with Tuesday's Weekly Reset, though some players have found a way to essentially hold him hostage, even getting an updated inventory of items. When Season 17 arrives, Xur will no longer be working overtime and will properly despawn when the reset arrives each Tuesday.

Destiny 2 is now available PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
