Embracer has spoken about its recent acquisition of many Square Enix IPs, and is up for remakes, remasters, and spin-offs.

The Embracer Group bought a number of Western IPs from Square Enix, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex. Now, as part of its financial report, the company has talked briefly about the possibilities of that acquisition:

“We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs, as well as transmedia projects across the Group.”

Last month, Crystal Dynamics, said that it was working on the next Tomb Raider. And, what’s more, the studio revealed that the game would be in Unreal Engine 5. It is unlikely, perhaps, that we will see a Tomb Raider remake for a while, then. (Though, to be frank, a return to the old style would be much appreciated at the moment.

Or it could mean that we will see the return of Mr. JC Denton, the hero of Deus Ex. The last game in that series, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, was a cracking cyberpunk thriller. In VideoGamer’s review, Alice Bell said:

Mankind Divided has revamped some things in a positive way: there are more routes to completion for the curious minded player. I didn’t play a mission which I couldn’t adapt to as the situation changed around me.”
