Whether you’re a subscriber to Fred’s Voice or you think the ASMR boom is all a bit odd, this Hogwarts Legacy video is probably something we can all get behind. The 20-minute video centres on slow, panning shots from Avalanche’s upcoming PS5 and PS4 open world, showing off the stunning architecture of Britain’s best wizarding school – as well as locations like Hogsmeade, where an enchanted watering can is hydrating the plants.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that the audio ambience is seriously impressive: there’s one scene where a metallic sign is hanging from a coffee shop, and you can hear every clink and clank as it rocks gently in the wind. Presumably this is all representative of the final product, meaning the 3D audio effect on Sony’s new-gen console should be especially immersive.

Aside from anything else, I can't say I'm a fan of games without a defined main character.
So as much as I really love the setting, I'll give this a miss.

That's an odd thing to say since some games do it extremely well: Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragons Dogma...
As nice as this sounds, I'm willing to bet these sound effects are not like this in the game and have just been enhanced in post for this video. Happy to be proven wrong though.
As someone who loves the rain this was a really relaxing listen. Not your usual trailer for a game but it worked for me.
I watched a full Journey PS4 ASMR play-through the other day. Love the rain sounds though, not a great deal of games have the atmosphere for this.
I haven't been into HP since I was a child some 20 years ago and I have very strong feelings about... things... but I can't help but be incredibly excited about this game. Something about the idea of exploring that school is just so appealing and especially if it's a nicely drawn-out journey.
Not really a Harry Potter game as such. The game is set 150 years before Harry Potter was born.

The best Harry Potter game for me was Lego Harry Potter, beeing able to explore block Hogwards was incredible, and for me it´s still the best LEGO game ever made.
But I´m also very curious about this game. It´s a single player experience or its multiplayer?
@Sil_Am @SpaceDonkey @TheMysticOne Haha, my bad, I'll keep this in mind next time. ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, but to be blunt it's basically people whispering into microphones to make you feel relaxed.
Also extends to ambient sounds like rain or white noise, etc. Some of it seems a bit creepy, but it is calming IMO.

I’m sure this comment will be deleted, but I have to say this: as a fan of this website, I continue to be disappointed you are still not getting it. It is an extremely narrow and privileged thing to be able focus just on the game. Those who are being repressed, abused and snuffed out of existence merely for who they are do not have this choice. So, sure, delete this. But please keep it in mind as you continue this coverage. (And if this is indeed deleted, know you are also deleting a long-time reader. This is my favourite website, and no longer being able to come here to enjoy it would suck. But it is what it is, I guess.)
@Sil_Am ASMR, short for audio sensory meridian response, is a tingling sensation that some people get from experiencing certain sounds or feelings, for example, hearing someone speak quietly close to your ear, or scrunching up paper. Some people find it rather soothing & relaxing

I was just expressing my disappointment at the lack of a named lead character since I like the franchise and played almost all the HP games. I'm not a fan of it in JRPGs either, but there's plenty of other games I can play instead. I'm not demanding them to be cancelled, if other people like yourself enjoy games where you can fully customise an avatar then that's good.
@GoodOlDubs i hear you but as a long time reader you must be aware that whilst push square does its best (mostly) to present topics that are challenging and sometimes difficult to address in an informed and tactful manner there is a certain element that just cant wait to jump in feet first and start being toxic and just downright ignorant in their comments...the audio is quite impressive here listening through my 3d headphones..i'm quite hyped for this game as it looks better the more i see and read..

@NEStalgia okay its not wholly sexual but it gives some people that sensation/feeling when they hear s' or really weird sounds.
Think about that cringe feeling you get when scratching paper/blackboard/squeaky sounds but turn it up 10000000x and I think thats what they feel. But it feels nice and for some is sexual.

@Northern_munkey who are you afraid will be toxic here? This decision emboldens toxic people, if anything, as well as people who prefer to leave “uncomfortable” things aside so they simply can enjoy a game. What it does most? Encourage trans people to feel uncomfortable here. That’s a real shame.
My position: If you’re already moderating comments, perhaps use that time to delete actual transphobic content. If you can’t afford the time or resources to do that, do not cover this game. That would be entirely understandable, and not unprecedented.
@GoodOlDubs not quite sure that you understood what i was saying...i have no issues with anybody or whatever/however they choose to be/live but there are people out there who will use the comments sections to try and court controversy..are you saying that its ok to be toxic and try and upset members that are part of the different communitys that make up push squares readers?

I just think it’s a wasted opportunity to acknowledge real-world issues people are experiencing—which is, ironically, what makes video games and art so special: they reflect society’s issues, and help us to confront problems both at that level and a personal one. Severing the game off from reality does the game and its coverage a disservice—and ignores the real problems people and potentially many readers of this website are facing. Anyway! My two cents. I’m probably up to eight cents by now, come to think of it. But I appreciate your response.
Editing to add this: Write one story acknowledging this dynamic, and link to it from stories moving forward. Include links to resources for people in crisis. These are just a couple of ideas. Not perfect but better than ignoring the issue completely, imo
