How's about a bit of juicy speculation to get your Wednesday afternoon started? During the latest Square Enix Japan livestream for mobile title Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, series veteran Tetsuya Nomura teased that news regarding Final Fantasy VII's 25th anniversary would be dropping next month.
It's obviously an important event for such a landmark game, which would lead you to believe that we could get new information on Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 — or whatever it ends up being called. We know that the anticipated sequel is in development, but it's yet to be properly revealed.
But nothing's guaranteed, of course. It's easy to forget that Square Enix has a lot of Final Fantasy VII projects in the works, with the aforementioned The First Soldier sitting on mobile alongside Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. The emphasis may be placed on either of these games, or even something new.
Again, though, this is the 25th anniversary we're talking about, so you'd hope that Square Enix has something fairly significant planned. What's more, the publisher has already said during its most recent financial call that it expects news on Final Fantasy's 35th anniversary either this month or next, so it's all adding up.
In any case, it's clear that Final Fantasy stuff's happening soon. We'll be sure to cover anything relevant to PlayStation right here on Push Square.

I don't see SE showing part 2 till 16 has been released, both will be blockbusters so I'd rather just go one at a time. Still need to play through my severe FF backlog. I've only beat 12, 13, 15 (no dlc) and World of FF for some reason... So they can take their sweet time as I'd rather play in sequential order now, I've been waiting for pixel remasters to hit PS but will probs cave in and just buy them on steam, so I won't even touch the remakes for another 5 years after I beat 1-16 (no MMOs) in order 😂

They need to stop milking FFVII (they wont) and give some love to VIII (they wont), a sequel 25 years in the future with a new generation of students, one of them beeing Squall´s kid, would be great.

I may be one of the few people who loves FF7:R as a nearly faultless remaster of one of my favourite games. They really brought the world of my childhood to life.
I’d happily support buying it again on my Xbox and want more people to experience it.
Obviously news of the sequel would also be appreciated.
As someone who did nothing with the FF franchise apart from watching a friend play FF7 in the 90's, I really really enjoyed the Remake. No idea why to be honest. It has made me want to go out and check out other entries in the franchise. So I am interested in a part 2 or whatever its gonna be called.
@Andee hahaha.. Yeah, some of those names are really stupid, aren`t they.. but to be fair, the developers at that time are almost entirely Japanese, so for any non english speaking person, the name ends up being cool..

I don't see any sort of announcement happening until XVI is released.
I would bet money that it is a series of NFTs, updates to the mobile game, Cloud's hair in some obscure Chinese MMO and absolutely nothing of any importance to anyone that actually likes the game.
I hope they show FF7 Remake part 2, I can't wait for it!

@BigBoom3ai3 You're not alone. The things they did right they really did right but the things they got wrong were VERRRY wrong and basically ruined the game imo (the last few chapters were mind-numbingly stupid). I played through it when it came out and had very mixed feelings. Just this week I've decided I'm finally ready to go through again and its been a bit better since my expectations are in check. I'm finding I just wanna battle and grind and there are like...no enemies anywhere. Haha. Its very hallway simulator.
As we haven't seen anything on part 2, it had better be that with a coming soon at the end of the trailer... meaning 2023 some time.
@SplooshDmg The problem is they can't do anything involving inflatable balls, because the spikey hair would break all the games.
@BigBoom3ai3 I wouldn't say Remake is bad, but I can totally understand why some people might hate it. I agree with @invictus4000 on the point of it being very up and down. Its best moments are fantastic (the boss fights) and I really like the combat system.
But at the same time, it makes so many damning mistakes. The side content is terrible, and for as good as the combat system is, it's very underused. I also agree on it being a bit too much of a "hallway simulator" at times. I really dislike how often you're forced to walk very slowly down narrow corridors. The amount of gap-squeezing is also parody-level.
It's a weird game, really. But like @kyleforrester87 says, I am interested in seeing how the sequel comes together. I just hope lessons have been learned. Expand on the good stuff, give us more exploration, more combat, and ditch the absolutely crap side quests for the sake of padding.
@BigBoom3ai3 I'd disagree with that statement of yours. Imo, FF7 Remake was one of the best games of 2020 and looked pretty good at the time.
I would think this is a pretty good indication that there's a big Sony thing next month, wouldn't you? Square Enix could be going solo, but you'd think given they're largely partnered with PlayStation and did give them Remake exclusively, Part 2 would follow suit and it would make a bigger splash announcing it at a Sony thing?

Wow, a lot of hate for FF VII remake. Not sure why as I thought it was fantastic but perhaps it helps that I never played the original lol.
Reminds me of RE3 remake, a lot of hate for that game came from fans of the original. I didn't play that either so in many ways, I enjoyed the new RE3 almost as much as RE2 remake, my only complaint being that it was too short.
Hipsters never like remakes though, especially when they prove to be better than the original. See it as some kind of personal attack on their childhood memories or something.

Doesn’t this line up with the Xbox showcase? Betting it’s just an announcement of the Xbox version. Still hoping it’s a Remake part 2 update or FFVII Ever Crisis, which is supposed to release this year
they will anounce: "episode 2 of the acclaimed ff 7 remake is in active development for ps4 and ps5. please look forward to more news and updates in the future". this vague message will be followed up by a 5 second teaser video.

Oh man, purists that can't handle the slightest change to "their" beloved fandom. Bunch of jaded sourpusses that can't get any joy from their hobby unless they delude themselves with nostalgia, tribalism and selective memories. It's not the difference in opinion that irks me, but this boorish mindset of the vocal keyboard warriors within gaming (and star wars).
I hope its FFVII Remake Disc 2 if not maybe FFVII Bundle Collection of Crisis Core,Dirge of Cerberus and etc. or the Series of Final Fantasy Collection that was only released in Japan.
I’m not expecting a release date of FF7R but at least a quick look would be awesome. Besides from the inevitable Persona 6, FF7R Part 2 is my most anticipated game. I never played the original so I’m excited to play the rest and experience more of the story!
@GorosBat Haha yeah I started a series replay in number order (omitting the MMOs, I never got into 11 and quit 14 during Heavensward) when the first pixel remasters released on Steam, but kept getting sidetracked & currently a little way into 12 (just past Tomb of Raithwall).
@MisterXpoSay The story elements of Before Crisis / Crisis Core / Dirge of Cerberus are being worked into Ever Crisis which is currently only advertised for mobile. Per other comments, Ever Crisis news (or possibly a delay announcement) is one of the more likely things to come out of this coming event.

If it's not about Part 2, then it still needs to be announced sooner or later at the very least. If they keep remaining quiet on it, regardless of Final Fantasy XVI, then the jokes of Final Fantasy 7 Remake's story not being completed until sometime on the PS6 will end up being true.
I wonder if it will finish the game.
From experience, people tend to lose interest with multi part games and each subsequent part ends up selling less.
I want FF7 Remake Part 2 news and maybe even a trailer...but we're more likely to get First Soldier and Ever Crisis updates sadly.

@dancingstar93 12 is the worst one I beat IMO, played the remastered version and used the 4x speed option to grind, I literally beat that game from auto battling the entire game. I think I stopped the game once to heal in the Final boss of the game, I don't know if I played the game wrong but the fact that grinding out the game and having my party set to use basic attacks and heals at 50% got me through the entire game kinda leaves me scratching my head saying "what went wrong"? Story is also a blatant rip off of Star Wars which made me laugh and the only good character in the party to me was Balthier lol.
Hope you enjoy 13 as it was what popped my cherry for FF series and the story isn't convoluted like what the VAST majority of series fans think. A lot of the criticism is how corridor heavy it is, which is dumb considering most of the series is exactly the same, worst offender is 10, haven't beat that one yet but got through almost to the end and all I remember is that entire game was a single corridor, at least 13 has branching paths and opens up at a certain point into a semi-open world environment. Gran pulse is when the game gets really good as well. Last point, 13 still looks amazing, I still gush over the graphics to this day! Love this game, I finally beat it 2 years ago restarting the game and beat it in around 35 hours in 3 sittings, what an underrated gem of a game😊
