When Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak concluded its most recent digital event a week ago, many within the community were likely hyped by all of the exciting reveals. Three new monsters were announced, including the return of Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate’s flagship wyvern Seregios. Another upcoming feature revealed during the event are the Follower Quests. And recently the Sunbreak team shared a short preview of the feature’s gameplay, including what the NPCs can do during the hunt.

The release date of the massive expansion is only a month away, and the recently concluded Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak digital event only served to excite the gaming community more. Players will likely look forward to swapping out new Switch Skills in the midst of the hunt, or face off with the new subspecies of the Somnacanth and Almudron. With the new Follower Quest feature, hunters will be able to go on quests alongside some of their favorite NPCs from both Kamura Village or Elgado Outpost.

On the official Twitter account, Capcom shared a short video of what can happen when hunters play through a Follower Quest. According to the post, Follower Quests are single-player hunts that will help gamers deepen their bonds of friendship with a specific NPC. In the gameplay footage, the hunter is seen questing with Dame Fiorayne, one of the new characters that can be encountered in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s Elgado Outpost. NPCs in Follower Quests can also fall or collapse in battle, however, hunters can help them out to get them back into the fight.

In the video, it can be seen that NPCs have some capacity to hunt like actual players. They can lay down traps to stall monsters, help recover a hunter’s health, and even initiate Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s feature of Wyvern Riding. During the May 2022 digital event, the developers also shared that each NPC will have their own weapon specialization, so hunters can choose their favorite weapon to pair with during hunts. This will likely help in fights with tougher monsters such as the title’s flagship elder dragon Malzeno.

Though no parts of the official footage indicate what the benefits of Follower Quests are, fans of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will likely enjoy the feature. There are many characters from the base MH Rise title, and more introduced in the upcoming expansion, so being able to hunt with the roster of characters will likely be an entertaining way to pass the time between assigned quests and official hunts.

Monster Hunter Rise is available now for PC and Switch, and Sunbreak will release on June 30.
