No Man's Sky Outlaws, also known as Update 3.8.5, brought many new features to Hello Games' sci-fi survival game. The update focused on the seedy underbelly of the galaxy, with a cast of pirates, rebels, and smugglers. Players can even embark on new missions and criminal career paths that are unlike any other in No Man's Sky.

Starting a career as an outlaw in No Man's Sky's latest update begins with the Outlaw Stations, a set of new space stations that have fallen under the control of anti-government forces. These can either be rebels, pirates, or smugglers, with all three offering the same features and services. Outlaw Stations are found exclusively in Outlaw Systems, which are lawless territories without Sentinels.

How To Find An Outlaw Station

Players can find Outlaw Stations by using an Economy Scanner or better to search nearby stars in No Man's Sky's Galaxy Map. The presence of an Outlaw Station will be marked by a tiny skull among the symbols beneath the system's name and basic details.

An Outlaw Station looks mostly the same as a regular station apart from some un-repaired damage to its hull, which is similar to the damage on abandoned stations. The rough-and-ready exterior of an Outlaw Station is also reflected on the inside, with loose wiring and make-shift shops set up in the hangar bay.

What To Do In An Outlaw Station

Outlaw Stations offer the same basic amenities as a regular space station, including an Appearance Modifier, Upgrade Cabinets, Starship Outfitting Terminal, and Scrap Dealer. In addition, all Outlaw Stations contain a Teleporter which allows players to travel instantly to any of their Base Teleport Modules, as well as three unique traders.

The Contraband Agent trades in illegal and suspicious goods which are highly lucrative when sold in civilized systems, but also dangerous to transport. Local authorities will frequently scan ships to discover illegal goods, and attack if they find any. The Salvage Dealer offers Suspicious Upgrade Modules, much more powerful variants of regular upgrades that are normally very difficult to find.

Finally, the Bounty Master offers a brand-new set of criminal missions. These missions range from smuggling illegal cargo to claiming the bounties on rival pirates. Because of their high risk levels, these missions offer lucrative rewards including Units, Nanites, Illegal Goods, Suspicious Upgrade Modules, and Forged Passports. This final item also arrived in the Outlaws Update, and allows players to completely reset their negative standings with the local faction at a Space Station Core. This means that pirates can return to civilized society without having to worry about their crimes coming back to haunt them.

No Man's Sky is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with a Switch version also in development.
