Sony has revealed some of the classic games coming to the new PlayStation Plus subscription service, along with new features.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the company has revealed some new information on what we can expect.
In terms of classic games, we now know that “some titles that will show improved frame rates and higher-quality resolution compared to their original launch versions.”
On top of that, “For select original PlayStation and PSP classic games, members will also enjoy a new user interface with menus that allow you to save your game at any time, or even rewind the game if you want a do-over.” This is very similar to what Nintendo does with its NES and SNES classic games.
If you already own these games—on your Vita or your PS3, say—then you can download these new versions for free. No subscription cost, no game cost. In another bit of intriguing news, “Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase.” That’s pretty exciting, because, as nifty as these subscription services can be, you can’t beat ownership.
We have also got a look at some of the classic games that will be on the new PlayStation Plus. “Below is an early look at a selection of games that will be available,” the blog post reads. What’s more, new games will be “added regularly.”
These classic games include Ape Escape, Hot Shots Golf, I.Q. Intelligent Qube, Jumping Flash!, Tekken 2, Syphon Filter, and—originally on the PlayStation Portable—Super Stardust Portable. For the full list, check out the blog post here.
