The release of The Witch Queen in February saw plenty of new content drop into Destiny 2 for players to dig their teeth into, whether it was the legendary campaign or new raid, Vow of the Disciple. On the PvP side, though, the Crucible was not shown as much love as there were no new maps or additional modes, with the only content being two older maps being brought back to the rotation. Season 17 is looking to change this trend with plenty of new Crucible changes, including a brand-new map inside Savathun's Throne World.

Destiny 2's latest expansion, The Witch Queen, was released in February 2022 and pitted guardians against the Hive's god of cunning, Savathun, who has somehow gained the Light. Guardians must venture into her Throne World to learn how she was reborn in the Traveler's Light and what her plans for it are before it is too late. Standing between guardians and Savathun are the Hive Guardians of her Lucent Brood, Hive also reborn in the light and wielding powers similar to those guardians have used for years.

In the latest This Week at Bungie, the studio outlined some changes coming to Crucible next season, such as progression reworks to Iron Banner and the return of Rift to the game. Bungie said in the post, that to coincide with Rift's comeback, the new map titled Disjunction would be joining the rotation in season 17 "for all 6v6, 3v3, and free-for-all modes." The studio describes the map as one of the "largest maps yet" and is set in the Throne World's swamps near the damaged Pyramid ship, offering three combat lanes and plenty of zones for short, mid, and long-range encounters.

A new Crucible map set inside the Throne World makes sense as the location was met with largely positive feedback from the Destiny 2 community and critics, alike. The design of the location provides Bungie with plenty of unique locations to use for map design, whether it be Savathun's castle or the damaged Pyramid housing Rhulk and the husk of the first worm god.

On top of that, the addition of Disjunction is a big deal for Destiny 2's PvP community, which players could argue has been starved for new content for some time. For clarity, Disjunction will be the first brand-new map added to Crucible since Fragment, which was added in 2019's Shadowkeep expansion. Since then, the game lost 11 maps as part of the mass content vaulting when Beyond Light was released in 2020 and saw the return of vaulted maps, Eternity and Vostok, with Witch Queen.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
