Funcom, the developer behind Conan Exiles, is hiring for an open world survival game based on Dune.

Funcom announced this Dune game last year, and is now staffing up for the project. A statement from the recruitment page (via VGC) reads:

“Since the ‘90s, Funcom has honed its craft creating unforgettable experiences in captivating universes and delivering lasting success with games like Conan Exiles. Having built a team of experienced developers from across over 30 nationalities, we now seek new voices to add to our most ambitious project yet, set on Arrakis.”

Funcom describes this upcoming game as a “next-gen open world survival game.”

It’s an exciting time for Dune fans, at the minute. Not only has Denis Villeneuve released part one of a planned film duo, but we also have Dune: Spice Wars. The latter is also from Funcom, and it’s a 4X real-time strategy affair.

Check out the trailer below:

The description reads:

“Dune: Spice Wars is the first game in two decades that brings players back to the inhospitable world of Arrakis. Here, players must lead one of the great factions to power by controlling the most valuable and strategically important resource in the universe: spice. And as we all know: if you control the spice, you control the universe.”

Spice Wars is out now in early access, on PC. And who knows when this new game will be coming out. Considering Funcom is hiring for the project now, it likely won’t be out for a year or two at least.
