CD Projekt Red's FPS RPG didn't get off to the best of starts, with glitches, disappointed fans, and its fair share of review bombing. But over the months and years since its 2020 release, Cyberpunk 2077 has been able to pick itself up, dust itself off, and (eventually) deliver a game that has most fans pretty happy. This has been in part due to the dedication of the development team, which has committed to improving the base game with a variety of patches and updates to make sure that Cyberpunk 2077 delivers on what it promised.

Now, Cyberpunk 2077 has started to turn the heads of players once again, and this time for the right reasons, with rumors surrounding its upcoming DLC. While Cyberpunk 2077's first major expansion has yet to be fully revealed, there is plenty of speculation about what it might bring to the game. New cosmetics and ways to customize the player's character seem like a given, and rumors about some possible online multiplayer have gotten fans excited as well. But it's the hints about a whole bunch of new Gigs that could really help deepen Cyberpunk 2077's role-playing experience.

Gigs In The Game

In the base game, Gigs are optional side quests that players can accumulate during their playthrough. They're provided by fixers or clients, and usually appear when V enters new parts of Night City as a way to explore the areas and earn eddies, experience, and Street Cred. Gigs are useful ways to level V up, but they can also provide some interesting story moments, as well as some unexpected moments of levity. Some Gigs give a few options for how to complete them, further allowing for player choice and letting gamers shape the character of their V to some degree.

Recently, Cyberpunk 2077 Quest Director Pawel Sasko may have accidentally leaked some DLC details while streaming on Twitch. Sasko shared his screen by mistake, and viewers were able to see browser tabs like one titled "DLC4 Gigs." Typically, Gigs in Cyberpunk 2077 are quick affairs, but that doesn't mean that players won't be excited about a bunch of new ones to help them explore Night City and experience its many layers to the fullest. They can be fun distractions from the main story or handy ways to gain more experience or Street Cred, but they also make V's character feel more authentic and let players indulge in more realistic role-playing.

Expanding The Role-playing Aspects

Much like Geralt's monster-slaying side quests in The Witcher games, Gigs in Cyberpunk 2077 occupy the space of a sort of day job for V. They're an actual way that the character would survive in Night City as a merc, offering themselves as a gun for hire or helping with any variety of odd jobs that would require their specific set of skills. Aside from the overarching storyline to rid themselves of their deadly cybernetic implant and take on the powerful Arasaka corp, the game also gives players the chance to simply live in Night City and build V up from a relative nobody to a merc with some clout.

Gigs are a fundamental way to achieve this kind of role-play in Cyberpunk 2077, and offering more Gigs, as well as expanding the types that players have access to, would be a fun way of deepening this mechanic as well. Particularly if players have completed the main story and are looking for reasons why their V would be sticking around Night City, adding a more varied, expansive list of odd jobs just makes sense. The ways that players choose to complete them as well – whether they're more ruthless, stealthy, or simply unapologetically violent – help to shape how they want their V to be seen by other characters.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
