Sony’s latest financial results have revealed the company has sold 19.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles as of March 31, 2022.

As spotted by Gematsu, two million extra units of PlayStation 5 consoles have moved since the previous update in February. However, it does mean that the company has fallen short of its original target of 22.6 million consoles. The company made the forecast back in August, but adjusted its prediction by that aforementioned February update.

Over the same year, the company sold one million PS4 consoles for FY 2021. That’s down from 5.7 million from the previous financial year (ending March 31, 2021), but still impressive for the aging console. In fact, hardware sales were still a strong performer for the company, with revenue up by 6.4 billion as per Sony’s presentation slides.

Not that software sales were any slouch either. Sony reported sales of 70.5 million units for both PS5 & PS4 games combined for the fourth quarter of FY 2021. That’s 9 million more than the same period in the previous fiscal year. 14.5 million of those were first party titles too, giving the company reason to celebrate.

The company expects PlayStation’s fortunes to continue to improve in FY 2022 as well. It says it expects “significant increases” in Games and Network revenue, thanks majorly to an “increase in sales of non-first-party titles including add-on content”. However, it also says to expect a drop in operating income, mainly due to things like Sony’s recent $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie earlier this year.
