Marvel’s Avengers fans are currently wondering what will become of the game following Embracer’s acquisition of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. While leaks have indicated that everything from She-Hulk to a co-op version of the MODOK boss fight are on the way, it remains to be seen if these additions will actually be made or if the plug will be pulled.

Right now, the best thing that Marvel's Avengers fans can do is think optimistically, hoping that Embracer will get approval from Disney to try reviving the struggling game. Assuming that this happens, tie-in content for the upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever seems likely. With Jane Foster being added alongside the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, it would make sense for a new hero to come to the game when the next Black Panther film drops. However, that could just be the beginning, as there is a lot of potential for more tie-in content.

The Potential of a Playable Shuri in Marvel’s Avengers

Following the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, many have been wondering how the upcoming film will handle the loss of T’Challa and who will take the Wakandan Throne. Of the potential candidates for the next Black Panther, Shuri seems the most likely to fill the void left by her brother. While the heart-shaped herbs are gone, she could be a tech-based version of the hero, using extra Vibranium gadgets to compensate for a lack of super strength and super speed.

Assuming that Shuri does become the new Black Panther in the film, even for a brief moment, it could be interesting to see her become playable in the game as well. During the War for Wakanda DLC, she is set up to rule the fictional country while T’Challa handles the duties of the Black Panther, though another attack on Wakanda could force her into action. Giving her some different abilities, like the sonic gauntlets she used in the original Black Panther movie, could make her gameplay a fair bit different from her brother’s.

Some similar assets and moves would surely be used for Shuri, though, making her an alternate version of Black Panther. This would line up with the game’s other DLC heroes, as players have seen echo fighters for both Hawkeye and Thor. With a Hulk variant in She-Hulk rumored to be coming, too, adding an alternate version of T’Challa would simply be a continuation of the pattern that has been established thus far. With the Shuri seen in Marvel’s Avengers being likable, this addition would be a good one, even if it is not quite as exciting as a brand-new hero like Captain Marvel.

The Potential of Namor and Atlantis in Marvel’s Avengers

Fighting through Wakanda once again would hardly be a bad thing, as the jungle biome is the most interesting area in the game at the moment and new locations could be added that let players fight through the city. Still, it would be great to see a brand-new region introduced to the game soon. Atlantis could be a perfect choice for this, as it would be such a major departure from the game’s current locations and would surely get some eyes back on Marvel’s Avengers due to its uniqueness.

Marvel’s Avengers already has some underwater areas, and while these are high-tech AIM bases as opposed to ancient buildings and structures, this could still provide a good starting point for Crystal Dynamics. The developer could even model its version of Atlantis off the one that is rumored to feature in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as leaks have indicated that Marvel fans will soon get to see a war between Wakanda and Atlantis on the big screen.

Atlanteans could serve as an entirely new enemy faction, having a unique fighting style and fresh abilities like the Klaw enemies from War for Wakanda. One of the things that Marvel’s Avengers desperately needs is more enemy types, as players have grown tired of battling the same AIM bots. The Klaw mercenaries were a step in the right direction since they provided some fresh gameplay mechanics, and a Wakanda Forever tie-in should feature a similar war with Atlantis to the one that may be happening in the movie.

Marvel’s Avengers also needs more boss fights, and Namor the Sub-Mariner could provide an excellent antagonist for players to battle against. Seeing a boss mind control sea creatures like sharks and squids to attack the Avengers could make for an unforgettable boss battle and one that players want to go back to again and again. With overly similar boss fights like Maestro and Abomination in the game, more variety is needed. Namor could be unique as Monica’s fight from the Cosmic Cube Villain Sector, ensuring that he would be a great addition to the game.

It is also worth mentioning that the new Black Panther film could provide opportunities for more MCU skins in Marvel’s Avengers. Whether this be through an M’Baku skin for Black Panther or outfits for the hypothetical Shuri hero that are based on her costumes in the films, this seems like a no-brainer on Crystal Dynamics’ part. Further, like with other MCU releases, a special nameplate for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would make sense.

Obviously, this would be a lot of content for a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever tie-in. After all, the only thing confirmed for the Jane Foster update is the hero herself, as it is unclear if she will bring new enemies or a fresh Operation along with her. Still, if rumors are true about Wakanda Forever, and Atlantis really does feature prominently in the film, it would be begging for a video game adaptation that capitalizes on the hype. Shuri joining the roster of heroes could be a fun way to expand the character lineup a bit, too, giving Crystal Dynamics plenty of options for an appealing tie-in.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
