Legends of Aria to Relaunch, Renaming Current Version to 'Classic' and Opening Closed Beta Next Week

With an overhaul and a rebrand, Legends of Aria will split off of the currently active version, which will be renamed as Legends of Aria Classic. Developer Citadel Studios has announced this overhaul and relaunch along with the opening of a closed alpha for subscribers beginning next week.

When Citadel Studios was acquired, and the game re-announced as embracing blockchain technology and play (or kill) to earn philosophy, there were some questions on just what this might ultimately mean. Now there’s a refocus, and the team is not just talking playing to earn but also security and power to build something truly player driven.

At the time of that announcement, it was confirmed that there would be a free to play version and a version that supported blockchain to make other aspects of the vision happen. Now, things have shifted once again. Philosophy here was that the developers want to spend about as much on development as marketing and follow a more traditional publishing approach. This will also come with new features and a new focus.

“ We will be relaunching the game with a focus on delivering the founding vision for LoA, executed alongside new developments, a new playable world, new sandbox content including boats, custom player-housing, upgraded PvP systems, prison systems, and more.”

The new version of the game will be open to subscribers, and open in closed alpha on May 11th. If you are a subscriber and play through the quest line in the alpha test, you'll be able to earn unique items that will also transfer over to final release. This relaunch is now scheduled for October.  The team plans a closed beta in June and open beta in July and those beta tests will be open to influencers and others to help Citadel showcase their new vision and new version.

The new relaunched version will be the subscription-based blockchain version. Though a free to play, without earning, version is still planned.
