CinemaCon just ended with a bang thanks to some exciting new footage from a number of highly-anticipated movies. While the videos themselves are unfortunately exclusive to the event, plenty of press folk were on-site to soak it all in. So the elusive first looks at both John Wick 4 and the unique curiosity known as the Borderlands movie during Lionsgate's panel can still be shared in some small way.

Perhaps the most noteworthy event was the sneak peek at John Wick: Chapter 4, which featured some charming stage presence from both Keanu Reeves himself and director Chad Stahelski. After the two spoke about their longtime collaboration, stretching all the way back to The Matrix in 1998 where Stahelski served as Reeves' stunt double, the director debuted the first official footage from the upcoming sequel. Based on accounts of the showcase, it definitely sounds like a John Wick movie.

Fans will remember the previous film ended with Reeves' titular former assassin stating his desire to take down the folks in charge of the massive criminal underworld that has basically consumed his entire life even after retiring. "A new day is dawning, new ideas, new rules, new management," the footage offers, featuring appearances from Reeves as John Wick and Lawrence Fishburne returning as the mysterious Bowery King. Fight scenes are shown, including car chases, one waterlogged sequence, and some particularly brutal utilization of nunchucks. Voice-overs contextualize much of the action, including one that ominously says "The only path this leads to is death."

But John Wick: Chapter 4 wasn't the only hotly-awaited project to get the spotlight from Lionsgate. Eli Roth's upcoming Borderlands film also finally revealed some enticing footage, finally going beyond that first silhouetted look at the cast. In the preview, viewers were shown short clips featuring stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, and Jack Black as the voice of chatterbox robot Claptrap. Blanchett is reportedly seen fighting through a strikingly-designed city, resulting in one of her shots hitting Claptrap. Yep, sounds pretty accurate.

Both of these showcases seem to offer pretty much exactly what fans might expect from their respective franchises. John Wick has always excelled when placing its title character in high-adrenaline action sequences against worrisome odds, and the 4th installment appears poised to offer the purest and most pulse-pounding versions of that idea yet. Meanwhile, just the description of the Borderlands footage sounds familiar enough to easily be from one of the actual games. So hopefully, this bodes well for the near future of both entries.

It's unclear when general audiences will finally see this footage from John Wick: Chapter 4 and Borderlands. But considering how the clips were ready to be seen by the folks at CinemaCon, odds are they're ready to be seen by everybody else fairly soon. For now, it looks like just one more thing to wait for. Well, two things.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to release on March 24th, 2023 while Borderlands is currently eyeing a more present but less specific 2022 premiere.
