Another month means another big monthly patch for Amazon Games' New World. April's update is all about quality-of-life tweaks, making the game feel more polished, less cluttered, and more readable. Fans of New World should find things a going a little smoother with this round of changes.

After launching last September, Amazon Games' flagship MMORPG was met with a rocky start. New World's player counts dropped rapidly, with reviewers often citing the game's bugs, lack of polish, clunky controls, poor performance, and lack of endgame content. In response to this, Amazon Games has been sticking to an update schedule of large monthly updates alongside smaller patches in between to address these problems and improve the game.

The April update, following New World's Easter event, features dozens of bug fixes, quality-of-life features, and UI changes. Amazon stated that the goal is "making life in Aeternum feel better and smoother on a moment-to-moment-basis." Certain starting area enemies have been made easier, small flint objects no longer have collision (a common annoyance that caused players to stop running when hitting a pebble), and a fix prevented players from blocking boss phase transitions. Attack inputs have been made smoother, along with a fix for the stutter/desync encountered while moving and casting spells. While no balance changes were made to weapons, all weapons received various bug and desync fixes.

A significant boost to gathering tools was implemented for every tier of gathering tools. T1 gathering tools have gone from 100% to 200% base efficiency, so players beginning their gathering careers will have a far easier experience. Gathering in New World is a priority, especially for new players, so this change will be very helpful early on. Each further tier saw increases between 75% and 125% percent, making tool maintenance less of a hassle across the board. Other fixes help make equipment tooltips more accurate, which will make it easier for players to assess their damage dealing potential more accurately. Downtime for the update will take place at 5AM PT (12PM UTC) and will last for roughly two hours.

Since this update is focused on polish and quality-of-life, it has relatively little new content in store. This is in stark contrast to last month's Heart of Madness update, which saw the final confrontation with New World antagonist Isabella. The March update added a new weapon, new exploration features, revamped enemy AI, and a huge number of further fixes and tweaks. It makes sense that this April update would then follow up by polishing and adjusting everything that was recently added. It's also a sign that the next big update for New World may bring some much-needed new content to the island of Aeternum.

New World is available now on PC.
