One of the perks of Destiny 2's longevity and the fact that it is a live service game is that players can expect the sandbox to change every few months, with the most powerful options at the time getting a bit of a hit and new options paving their way into the meta. This ever-shifting nature of weapons and abilities in Destiny 2 makes for interesting build choices for both PvE and PvP, but it's not uncommon for Bungie to nerf oversaturated niches, overperforming gun archetypes, or even Exotics.

Today, Bungie released a TWAB post that's all about weapon changes coming with Season 17, with an emphasis on the new flinch and airborne aspects of the game, especially in the Crucible. Bungie also took another pass at the economy of Special ammo in PvP and how dominating some Special weapons can feel if paired with damage buffs like Empowering Rift, High-Energy Fire, and more. Still, because this was a TWAB revolving around Destiny 2's weapons, it's worth mentioning all the various changes to the game's hottest PvP guns.

Sniper rifles in Destiny 2 didn't need a buff to become viable in PvP, but Bungie improved the overall feel of these guns by reducing the time it takes to stow, ready, and aim down sights with them. This is mainly due to how important the Snapshots Sights perk had become for snipers, which is also getting a complimentary change. However, among Destiny 2's Special weapons, the weapon families that underwent the most changes are shotguns and fusion rifles.

The overall approach to shotguns was to make them less capable of scoring one-hit kills easily and from far away, which led the team to decrease both damage falloff and aim assist, further nerfing powerhouse perks like Full Choke and Opening Shots. Fusion rifles are in a similar position, and many of their stats are being reduced to avoid easy one-hit kills or oppressing opponents from a distance. Destiny 2's fusion rifle families are also undergoing more changes, essentially increasing charge times across the board while reducing them for High Impact frames to make them more viable.

Many Primary weapons are also being changed in significant ways, especially the impact of zoom on SMGs like Multimach CCX and Shayura's Wrath, which are PvP monsters. Despite focusing on PvP, today's Destiny 2 TWAB outlined glaive changes for Season 17, with the weapons being buffed in various ways to try and improve their usage in high-end PvE content. As for the Crucible, glaives are likely to remain a rather underpopulated niche, but the new tweaks might change things in the long run.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
