Bluehole MMO Tera is shutting down

Servers will close on June 30 after studio decides to cease development after eleven years

Long-running MMORPG Tera will shut down this summer after running for over a decade.

The news was announced by the game's publisher Gameforge, which revealed that developer Bluehole had decided to cease development work on the MMO.

"After much consideration, the team in South Korea have come to the conclusion that they are no longer able to offer you the exciting and satisfying content you deserve," the company wrote.

"As the last remaining publisher of Tera, it is with a heavy heart that we must respect Bluehole's decision, and will also have to shut down the game."

Tera first launched in South Korea in 2011, arriving in North America and Europe a year later, and even getting a console port for PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.

The servers will be closed at 10am CEST / 4am EDT on June 30, 2022.

Players will be unable to register new accounts or purchase Tera Thalers, the game's premium virtual currency, from May 31.

There will be no refunds for purchases that have already been made, but players can spend their Tera Thalers until the servers shut down. Players with a long-term membership to Tera Club can apply for a partial refund.

"After nearly ten long years, the TERA legend must sadly come to an end," Gameforge wrote. "Together we've braved so many of Arborea's perils, fought valiantly against the argons, made many new friends and gone on countless adventures.

"We would like to thank you for your loyalty, for accompanying us on this long journey, and for being such an amazing community."
