In this atmospheric and wonderfully quirky indie game, Death's Door has players assume control of a tiny crow who works as a reaper at the Reaping Commission Headquarters. When their latest reaping assignment goes awry, players must track down the lost soul and battle against monsters along the way.

Perfect for fans of Zelda, Acid Nerve expertly takes advantage of the isometric camera view to slyly hide secrets from the player. These include Shrines where players can upgrade their health and magic capacity, as well as Soul Orbs, which contribute greatly to the player's in-game currency that can be spent on upgrades for the crow's combat and movement. However, these aren't the only things hidden in the world of Death's Door.

Players can live out their corvid dreams by collecting Shiny Things, and while they are considered collectibles, some of them tie into quests or secret encounters. Here is where players can find all 24 Shiny Things in Death's Door.

Old Engagement Ring

Death's Door little crow up in the rafters to collect the Old Engagement Ring

Location: Urn Witch's Ceramic Manor

Spell requirement: None

When exiting the door that opens into the Urn Witch’s Ceramic Manor, players should see a small gap in the wall to the immediate right of the door (leading to the left side of the manor). Stepping into this space will lead the little crow up a small elevator and into the ballroom.

There is a mini-boss fight in the ballroom that will prevent players from reaching the Old Engagement Ring if they have not already beaten this enemy. Once the encounter is over, a ladder will drop at the back of the ‘arena’ that players can climb up to reach the rafters above the ballroom. They should be sure to tread carefully across the rafters as it is easy to fall off and there will also be enemies that spawn up there too.

Players will need to proceed across the rafters to reach the other side, where they'll be able to find the Old Engagement Ring nestled in a small set of shelves.

Old Compass

Death's Door finding the Old Compass in the Lost Cemetery

Location: The Lost Cemetery

Spell requirement: Flame

Below the doorway to the Hall of Doors (from the Lost Cemetery), players will see a small building with an enemy patrolling on the roof. There is an entrance to the building that players can simply walk into, but they will find their progress is blocked by cobwebs.

Using the Flame spell, the reaper will be able to clear the cobwebs and reveal the path to another chamber where the Old Compass can be found.

Incense

Death's Door Incense above the Mausoleum

Location: The Lost Cemetery

Spell requirement: None

This Shiny Thing can be found above the Mausoleum where players will meet Steadhone, the Gravedigger, and is directly south of the Grey Crow’s location. There is a convenient coffin lid for the player to walk up to reach the ledge, where the Incense is sitting, ready for the taking.

Undying Blossom

Death's Door using the camera to find the Undying Blossom

Location: The Lost Cemetery

Spell requirement: None

This is one of the first instances of the camera being used to obscure paths from the player.

To the south of the Hall of Doors (from the Lost Cemetery) where a number of enemies are patrolling, there is a small building with a green roof. As the player approaches this structure, the camera angle will change and reveal an entrance.

The Undying Blossom is found on the ground as the player walks into the newly exposed room.

Old Photograph

Death's Door using the Flame spell to find the Old Photograph

Location: Urn Witch's Ceramic Manor

Spell requirement: Flame

From the doorway, players should take the door to the east (the right side of the manor) and look for a single chair in front of a lit fireplace. If the player has not already explored this section, they will need to destroy a pot and defeat the enemy that appears, which will open the gate on the opposite side of the room.

Exiting through this door will take players out into a hallway, where the Flame spell will need to be used to light a lantern. A ladder will then appear at the back of the hallway, which leads the little crow to the rafters above the hallway. The Old Photograph can be found on the other side of these rafters.

Sludge-Filled Urn

Death's Door using a plunging attack to get the Sludge Filled Urn

Location: The Urn Witch’s gardens

Spell requirement: Hookshot

To find the Sludge-Filled Urn, players should head to the fountain in the middle of the Urn Witch’s gardens (north-east of the door) and make their way west. Players will then need to find a small gap in the hedge along the perimeter of the next area and shuffle their way through the bushes and climb the ladder up a pillar.

There is an anchor across the way that can be latched onto by using the Hookshot ability. Once across, the player should see a conveniently placed gray drain cover on the ground, but it is not immediately obvious what needs to be done here. The tiny crow can perform a plunging attack while falling, which players should execute over the drain so that they land in an underground tunnel.

From here, they'll simply need to follow the tunnels until another drain cover is reached and then exit. There will be an encounter with several waves of enemies here that are blocking the way to the Sludge-Filled Urn and must be defeated before players can continue onwards.

Token of Death

Death's Door using the hookshot to reach the Token of Death

Location: En route to the Stranded Sailor from the Lost Cemetery

Spell requirement: Hookshot

While the player is traveling towards the Stranded Sailor for the first time, they will come across a waterfall and a ledge that is inaccessible without the Hookshot. Players can grapple onto the anchor across the way and travel over the gap between the two ledges, where they will find the Token of Death.

Rusty Garden Trowel

Death's Door the Garden of Love puzzle
Death's Door the back of the Old Photograph to solve the Garden of Love puzzle

Location: South of the entrance to the Urn Witch's Ceramic Manor

Spell requirement: None

Although the player will not need a spell to obtain this Shiny Thing, they will need to have collected the Old Photograph beforehand to solve the puzzle.

West of the fire pit in the Estate of the Urn Witch is the Garden of Love where the next collectible is hidden. Players will find a formation of pots arranged on a chessboard, which must be broken in a specific order to reveal the path to the Rusty Garden Trowel. Luckily for players that have been diligent in their search for shiny things, when inspecting the Old Photograph, players can rotate it to find the puzzle solution on the back (or use this handy guide with the image above).

Players should be careful not to break other pots while completing the puzzle as this will force them to start over again. They should either use the Rogue Daggers for the short-range or the Bow for a more precise shot.

Captain's Log

Death's Door secret passage to the Captian's Log

Location: The Stranded Sailor

Spell requirement: None

Directly south of Pothead’s tent, players will find a secret passage that will lead to the Captain’s Log. They should head down the stairs from the main hub area of the Stranded Sailor, to the right of the door, where there are wooden arches and lanterns hanging. Once there, they'll be able to enter a cavern in the mountainside and follow the path around to the hidden area and the Captain's Log.

Giant Arrowhead

Death's Door Giant Arrowhead

Location: Throne of the Frog King

Spell requirement: None

This Shiny Thing is available to the player immediately after they defeat the Frog King. They'll simply need to walk to the other end of the boss arena to find a ladder, where the Giant Arrowhead can be found.

Malformed Seed

Death's Door using the hookshot to get the Malformed Seed

Location: Overgrown Ruins

Spell requirement: Hookshot

This next collectible utilizes clever camera work to sneakily go under the player’s radar. Keen-eyed players will notice a series of anchors dotted around the southeast area of the Overgrown Ruins, but they are placed just out of reach.

To the right side of the Overgrown Ruins, players will spot numerous anchors to use the Hookshot on, but they are placed on pillars that are out of reach. To get there, players will need to find a ladder that is subtly hidden from view above one of the entrances to the Mushroom Dungeon. When the player approaches, the camera angle will change to reveal the ladder in full.

Once the player is level with the anchors across the way, they can use the Hookshot to grapple onto them and jump between the platforms. They can then follow these around and to find the Malformed Seed.

Corrupted Antler

Death's Door using the bomb spell to open the way to the Corrupted Antler

Location: Mushroom Dungeon

Spell requirement: Bomb

The Corrupted Antler is visible from the main bridge of the Mushroom Dungeon when the player first enters, but the way to get there isn’t quite as straightforward.

If the player has already unlocked the gate directly above where the doorway for the Hall of Door is, the quickest route is to take the path through this section of the dungeon. Players should follow the narrow passageway until reaching the room with the bomb plant in the center. If the player has not yet unlocked the gate for the shortcut, this room can be reached by heading southeast from the big door that requires souls to open.

At the very top of the room, there is a blocked path that must be cleared using the Bomb spell. After this passage has been opened up, the player can claim the Corrupted Antler that had previously been taunting them.

Magical Forest Horn

Death's Door Magical Forest Horn

Location: Overgrown Ruins

Spell requirement: None

This Shiny Thing is mandatory to progress and grants access to the Mushroom Dungeon.

After speaking to the Forest Mother in the Forest Settlement, players should take the ladder to the south and use the bomb plant and lever to open up new shortcuts (which will set up the player for easier navigating in the future). To the east, players will find a small area where they will need to defeat enemies before a vine drops down for them to use to get to a higher platform.

Waves of enemies will spawn in this next area, blocking both the path ahead and a Planter that the player can use to plant a Life Seed to regain health. After the enemies have been defeated, players should take the stairs up and travel down the short ladder over to the left. Further along, there will be a bomb plant that can be used to break open another shortcut path. Next, players should travel up the vine to another more open area. If players are in need, they can find another Life Seed just behind the head of a fallen statue in the center of this section.

Players then need to travel west where another path can be opened with a bomb plant, revealing another lever that can be used to create a shortcut back to the Forest Settlement. More enemies will spawn before reaching the next ladder, but once they are defeated, players can head up and use another vine to get to the next Planter.

Next, players must go northwest, where they will be ambushed by the final set of enemies. After taking them out they should climb down the ladder that can be found to the west of the arena. Players will be rewarded with the Magical Forest Horn, which is located to the left of the broken cart and can be taken back to the Forest Settlement to progress the story.

Ancient Crown

Death's Door getting the Ancient Crown through the underground passages

Location: Castle Lockstone

Spell requirement: None

In the main hall of Castle Lockstone, where the path diverges into four possible directions, the player should take the path north.

This will take the player outside and into an area with wooden walkways above them and a gated room off to the left. Players will need to take the little crow up the ladder to the walkways and follow the path around to the right until they are lined up with the gray drain cover on the ground.

From there, players should use a plunging attack on the drain to enter the underground tunnels. They must then follow the path until they reach the other side where they can collect the Ancient Crown.

Grunt's Old Mask

Death's Door seeing a friend

Location: The Stranded Sailor

Spell requirement: Bomb

Grunt is an NPC that the player can meet in the Mushroom Dungeon. The player can free them from their cell once they have acquired the Bomb spell by using it to break open the wall.

The next time the player meets Grunt is directly to the left of the door in the Stranded Sailor. Grunt’s Old Mask, which they have now rejected after pledging a new allegiance, can be found sitting on his rug and is now up for grabs. Saving Grunt will also award players with the Clever Too Much achievement.

Ancient Door Scale Model

Death's Door using the flame spell to get the Ancient Door Scale Model

Location: Hall of Doors

Spell requirement: Flame

After obtaining the Bomb spell in the Hall of Doors, players will find two lanterns on their way back to the main section. Lighting the two lanterns by using the Flame spell will open a gate that leads the player to the first Scale Model.

Modern Door Scale Model

Death's Door using the hookshot to get the Modern Door Scale Model

Location: Hall of Doors

Spell requirement: Hookshot

From the office area of the Hall of Doors, players will need to head down the stairs at the south side. There, they should spot a streetlight on a small floating piece of land. These streetlights act in the same manner as the anchors out in the world and can be grappled by using the Hookshot.

Rusty Belltower Key

Death's Door Rusty Belltower Key in shiny things menu

Location: Hall of Doors

Spell requirement: None

The Rusty Belltower Key is a reward granted after defeating the final boss of the game and will be located in the same arena.

Surveillance Device

Death's Door Surveillance Device in the Hall of Doors

Location: Hall of Doors

Spell requirement: Bomb

South-west of the main hub in the Hall of Doors is a blocked path, to the right of the Castle Lockstone and the Camp of the Free Crows doorways. The player will need to use the Bomb ability to open this path and pick up the Surveillance Device.

Shiny Medallion

Death's Door Shiny Medallion hidden behind the cage elevator

Location: Old Watchtowers

Spell requirement: Bomb

Before taking the cage elevator up to the Old Watchtowers proper, players should draw their attention to the peculiar key shape in the back wall. This is a secret room that players can open by using the Bomb spell, which will open up into a chamber that holds the Shiny Medallion.

Ink-Covered Teddy Bear

Death's Door fighting the large knight guarding the Ink-Covered Teddy Bear

Location: The Stranded Sailor

Spell requirement: Hookshot

To the southeast of the door, there are a set of wooden bridges for players to walk over to cross the surrounding lake. On the far end of these bridges, there are two anchors for players to grapple with the Hookshot to travel between them.

After crossing to the other side, players will be confronted by a large knight that must be defeated before they can proceed any further. The knight may not be particularly fast, but their attacks can be devastating if dodges are not timed well, and they can close gaps with a leaping attack to catch players off guard. Players should aim to make use of the surrounding space to stay on the move and keep an eye on where the knight is swinging their mace.

Once the knight has been taken down, players can proceed up a ladder to collect the Ink-Covered Teddy Bear.

Death's Contract

Death's Door Death's Contract hidden in Castle Lockstone

Location: Castle Lockstone

Spell requirement: Flame

As part of the puzzle to progress through Castle Lockstone, players will need to light special braziers in four different rooms where the past Lords of Doors have been laid to rest.

The eastern brazier will open a grate in the ground so that the little crow can drop down and return to the main section of the castle, but players can find a Shiny Thing here before leaving. In the room that the player drops into, there are various wooden doors leaning against the back wall, concealing a passage into another room. Players can pick up Death’s Contract here, sitting on some shelves.

Makeshift Soul Key

Death's Door using the hookshot to get the Makeshift Soul Key

Location: Grove of Spirits

Spell requirement: Hookshot

Although this is the very first area outside the Hall of Doors that the player will see, the tiny crow is unable to obtain this Shiny Thing until they have access to the Hookshot.

Over to the east of the door, players will be able to spot an anchor embedded in the ground of an otherwise unreachable platform. They should use the Hookshot to make the jump and then travel into the new area to the right and collect the Makeshift Soul Key before heading back out.

Mysterious Locket

Death's Door changing the time of day to obtain the Mysterious Locket

Location: Outside of Betty’s Lair

Spell requirement: None

In the snowy mountains outside of Betty’s Lair, players will see a series of icicles blocking the route to a set of stairs. Melee and spell attacks will clear the icicles (although they will grow back after a short period of time), allowing players to travel up the stairs. However, they will not be able to proceed until they have collected the Rusty Belltower Key.

The key is required to access a bell in the Lost Cemetery close to the Grey Crow’s location. Hitting this bell will cause the time of day to shift, cutting the music and plunging the world into the darkness of night. If the player returns to the top of the stairs near Betty’s Lair after it becomes night, the moon symbol on the ground will glow and a passage will open before them. Inside will be the Mysterious Locket.

This locket is required to access a secret boss fight and also serves as a step for the players to discover the true ending.

Death’s Door is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
