The Viking survival game Valheim continues to be updated since its early access release last year. One of the latest of these brought players new caves to explore in the game’s mountain biome as well as a handful of new enemies. In order to smooth some issues and bugs that have cropped up from this release in Valheim, Iron Gate AB recently released a patch for the game.

Valheim is a survival and sandbox game that was released in February 2021. Players are dropped into a hostile filled with enemies that become aggressive on sight. Valheim's world is split into different biomes that act as markers of progress for players.

In the introduction of patch 0.208.1, the developers mention that this is aimed at removing bugs and issues and making the overall gameplay experience smoother. The bugs that have been addressed in this patch were related to Valheim's terrifying Trolls not getting staggered correctly, some issues that had been found in the rooms in Frost Caves, and an issue that meant smelters were using the incorrect amount of coal. On top of this, the developers have fixed a bug that led to some items not being covered in snow and a bug that led those players who were buying items from the trader to accidently purchase them twice. Some of the gameplay improvements that were added as part of this patch include items stacking in a player's inventory when they are retrieved from a tombstone as well as various devcommands improvements.

This patch may not represent a large change to Valheim but what it does address are things players have noticed in the game that took away from the game. The developers didn’t mention the reasons behind some of the bugs that were fixed in this patch, but players should know this update isn’t too large and will download quickly.

While this isn’t a major content update that Valheim players were likely looking for, it improves the quality of life for players in small but real ways. Especially useful are the fixes associated with collecting things from tombstones, which pop up after players are killed in Valheim. Those moments are usually tricky enough and now should be a little easier with this patch.

Then again, Valheim’s original content map laid out an impressive roadmap that got a lot of fans excited for major content updates. The longer the wait between these additions, the more upset players are likely going to get. Either way, this update fixes some common issues and improves how Valheim plays.

Valheim is available now for PC.
