Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Capcom is compiling another collection of coin-op classics, in the awkwardly named Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium for the PlayStation 4. This contemporary compendium of quarter guzzlers previously leaked in Korea, but has since been confirmed by the Japanese publisher. Like its predecessor, Capcom Arcade Stadium, it’ll include a total of 32 titles – presumably enhanced with save states, rewind functionality, and more.

As was the case with the previous collection, there’ll be a free version to download featuring SonSon, the firm’s 1984 adaptation of the legendary Chinese novel, Journey to the West. For those of you who’ve never heard of this game, it’s essentially an auto-scrolling platformer where you work your way up and down six different platforms, fighting off all sorts of enemies, including bats, rats, and a menagerie of other animals.

A second bonus title, Three Wonders, has also been confirmed. This, curiously, is a 1991 collection featuring three different games: Midnight Wanderers, Chariot, and Don’t Pull. This package was actually ported to the PS1 in the late 90s in Japan, under a different name: Wonder 3. Curiously, you’ll get access to Three Wonders if you pre-order another of Capcom’s upcoming compilations, Capcom Fighting Collection, but there’s no word on if it’ll be available separately yet.

The publisher has, of course, promised more information soon. Microsoft’s reliably leaky online store appears to have pegged a 22nd July, 2022 release date to the package – but that’s, of course, always subject to change. Still, it’ll be fascinating to see which titles are added to this package: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs? Saturday Night Slam Masters? Alien vs Predator? Mars Matrix? Dimahoo? Capcom Sports Club?! Oh, we can but dream.
