While farming simulator Stardew Valley offers players a number of skills to hone, from foraging to fighting to fishing, the heart of the game remains the cycle of planting, growing, watering, and harvesting crops. In the years since Stardew Valley's debut in 2016, players have moved from simply planting fields of their crop of choice on the provided farmland to experimenting with potential farming locations all throughout the Valley and its surrounding area.

Farmers in Stardew Valley are initially given one farm to start out with, featuring a certain number of farm-able tiles depending on the type selected. Each farm map also features a Greenhouse, which players can complete tasks to repair and then grow crops year-round, even during the winter. Later, as of the game's 1.5 update, players were granted access to a second farm, located on the tropical Ginger Island, which also allowed for year-round farming. However, players were not satisfied with these options and quickly began searching out creative solutions to grow crops anywhere they could.

One Stardew Valley player, who goes by hauzan2112 on the game's Reddit community, discovered a particularly unique farming location: the Night Market's submarine. The Night Market is an event which occurs for only three in-game days, Winter 15 through Winter 17. During the Night Market, players can take a deep-sea fishing tour on a submarine for 1,000 gold. The deep-sea fishing tour allows players to catch three rare fish types - Blobfish, Midnight Squid, and Spook Fish - which cannot be caught anywhere else in the game. However, as hauzan2112 discovered, the submarine can serve a secondary purpose as a place to grow crops, but only for three days.

First, the Reddit user filled the interior of the submarine with Garden Pots, an item which allows crops to be grown anywhere as long as they are contained within the pot. They then filled the pots with Parsnips, a crop that normally grows only in spring and can be harvested in four days. However, because four days is still too long to take advantage of the Night Market, they added Hyper Speed-Gro, a fertilizer that stimulates plants and allows them to be ready more quickly. The Parsnips planted on Winter 15 were successfully harvested on Winter 17, although the player did have to visit the submarine again on Winter 16 to water their crops.

Unfortunately, the user reported that they left the Garden Pot in the submarine on the final day of the Night Market. It did not reappear the following in-game year, causing them to lose the item permanently. Players interested in using the submarine for farming should make sure to remove all pots and other farming equipment before the Night Market leaves town. It is also recommended that they do take at least one deep sea fishing tour, as Blobfish are one of the most profitable fish to raise in a fish pond and can even produce ultra-rare Pearls.

Stardew Valley is currently available for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Switch, and Xbox One.
