Marvel’s Avengers released in 2020 and allowed players to take on the role of some of their favorite Marvel superheroes. The game’s roster includes many characters that have entered a new realm of pop-culture recognition due to their appearance in the hugely popular Marvel films, along with the promise of new characters, some of which fans have been asking for but have yet to be added to Marvel's Avengers.

The character lineup from Marvel’s Avengers clearly made the game feel reminiscent of the 2012 Avengers movie as each one of the heroes from that film features prominently in the game's main story and on the box art. That is, except for one of The Avengers, the much-maligned Hawkeye.

Hawkeye was later added to Marvel’s Avengers with his own story campaign as part of Crystal Dynamics’ pledge to continuously update the game and bring more characters and content. But for a time, especially after the 2012 Avengers movie, Hawkeye became the butt of many jokes on the internet, mostly for being a guy with a bow and arrows on a team that included a giant green monster and a literal Norse god. This is an image the character has done well to shed over the last decade through later movie appearances and a series on Disney+. However, it is still a deeply ingrained thought, made evident by Reddit user czumberge and their reaction to discovering a glitch while playing as the character.

The bizarre glitch is found in the latest 2.3 patch for Marvel's Avengers which was meant to make major changes to the game. The glitch appears to give Hawkeye the ability to fly similarly to Iron Man, except without any of the animations beyond take off, or any method of propulsion. Upon noticing the glitch, czumberge took to Reddit to share the strange occurrence, titling the clip “New Feature: Hawkeye’s Peter Pan Mode.”

Perhaps it was Hawkeye’s awkward and jittery lift-off from the ground that reminded the Reddit user of characters from Peter Pan whenever they’d get fairy dust sprinkled on them and float away from the ground unaware that they can now fly. But the fact that the game is a showcase of numerous iconic marvel superheroes, many of whom do have the ability to fly, and still Hawkeye gets compared to Peter Pan does show where Hawkeye may still stand in the public consciousness.

The comments of the post are split between comparing Hawkeye to other flying non-superhero characters such as Mary Poppins or Neo from The Matrix, while others are disappointed with the continuous bugs being found in the latest 2.3 patch.

Marvel's Avengers is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
