The previously announced launch of the new Runecrafting minigame in Old School RuneScape, Guardians of the Rift, went live with today’s update. Though issues, some major, arose with the update and the team decided to issue some hotfixes and to roll back the server.
Guardians of the Rift launched with a new quest called Temple of the Eye. In this quest, you help a wizard with her research and visit the Temple of the Eye. It's your responsibility to uncover a mystery that goes way back to the dawn of magic and will take you into a mini quest and start your Runecrafting skill tests. If you're successful, you will unlock Guardians of the Rift and you'll get some Runecraft XP, a quest point, and a medium pouch.
Once you've unlocked the minigame you'll be able get started and see what the final version looks like. Guardians is a safe one so you won't lose anything and it is also accessible to skilling-only accounts. Once in the game and it starts, it's your job to help the Great Guardian close the Abyssal Rift. Keep the Guardian powered up by mining Guardian fragments and then combining them into Guardian Essence. There are a few other steps, but if you feel that your Runecrafting is good enough, you should be able to make it. You'll have to upgrade the barriers, fight Abyssal creatures that spawn, and even create smaller guardians to help the Great Guardian stay defended.
After the update went live, there were reports of bugs that made items that are normally untradeable able to be picked up by other players when dropped in an instance. This alone was serious enough to roll the server back. There were also bugs with Temple of the Eye where mobile players were seeing the game crash. A series of other fixes and bugs that were affecting players who were unable to Complete the Temple of the Eye quest, return to the minigame or unable to craft Runes as expected, were all addressed.
