A TV adaptation has been announced for the 2019 game, A Plague Tale: Innocence. The show will be filmed in France, where the game is set. The story of A Plague Tale: Innocence follows two siblings, Amicia and her younger brother, Hugo, as they navigate 14th century France in the wake of the Black Death.

A Plague Tale: Innocence was praised upon release for its impactful story and stealth-based gameplay. The title was so well received by players that it ended up being an unlikely throw-in for Game of the Year back in 2019. The game is still well thought of, so much so that developer Asobo Studio decided to give A Plague Tale: Innocence the next-gen treatment last year. This continuing success has led the story of Amicia and Hugo to the TV screen in the form of an adaptation.

Although there are yet to be any castings or filming schedules, the show has been confirmed. French director Mathieu Turi has been brought on to direct the series. He is most recently known for directing Hostile and Meander, while he has previously worked on Inglourious Basterds and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Turi has said that he is excited to bring Amicia and Hugo's story to the small screen. That relationship will be the foundation for the series; similarly, A Plague Tale: Innocence was praised for the sibling bond on display.

The decision to keep the series native to France is one that is likely to draw praise from fans. Filming the show there and also hiring a French director is a step in the right direction to keep the show grounded in the source material, which has received much deserved acclaim from media outlets and players alike as time as passed, although A Plague Tale: Innocence was somewhat of an underrated gem when it released.

The announcement of a TV adaptation is not the only iron in the fire for the world of A Plague Tale, as the much awaited sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence is due to be released sometime in 2022. A Plague Tale: Reqium is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one. The sequel will continue the story of Amicia as she works to protect her younger brother, Hugo, from the many dangers of a plague-ridden France. Only time will tell whether the series will go on to portray the events of the upcoming sequel once it has been released.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is available now on Amazon Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
