At one time turn-based RPGs such as the Warlords series were a big thing. With pre-made maps and campaigns to play through you knew what you were getting yourself into. Fast-forward to March 1, 2022 and now we have a new strategy game to turn to, Hero’s Hour. Developer ThingOnItsOwn launches this new title today on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. They hit more than 170,000 wishlists on steam.

Take command as one of eleven factions and harness over two hundred different units in real-time battles. Each map is procedurally generated so no two playthroughs will be exactly the same. Capture towns and special spots across the map to earn more currency and create larger armies. “Hero’s Hour puts an innovative spin to the Heroes games by blending real-time with turn-based gameplay,” said, founder and manager Johann Verbroucht, of Goblinz Publishing. “A tribute to the genre, the developers put a lot of effort into creating a comprehensive experience filled with bespoke details at every corner, from the quirky pixel art to all the different units, spells, and artifacts present in-game.”

From the immense amount of units to the spells that your armies can cast. This looks like it may be the next big thing for the genre. I look forward to taking it for a spin and giving you all a review on it in the near future so stay tuned for that. For now take a look at the trailer and decide for yourself if it is worth your time. It launches with a 17.99 USD price point.

  1. The two screenshots are from HEROES OF HAMMERWATCH.

    • Can’t believe I missed the screenshots. I reviewed Heroes of Hammerwatch and selected the wrong heroes screen shot. Thank you for catching that. It will be properly updated.
