Avengers star Samuel L. Jackson has recently illuminated and confronted Joe Rogan's repeated use of the N-word on his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Jackson's discography and performances speak for themselves.

The Avengers star is one of the most influential and highest grossing actors of all time for his generation. Over time, Jackson’s wide range in terms of his acting skills has been praised and highlighted by both critics and fans. He is able to tap into his multidimensionality like a superhero would - which is fitting, considering Jackson's legendary hold over the MCU that he established when he stepped into the iconic role of Nick Fury. He's also tackled and touched on multiple other franchises, including Star Wars, and appeared in the majority of Quentin Tarantino's films. However, all of this success that Jackson had dedicated his time and energy to achieving, he was told repeatedly would never be his strictly because of the color of his skin.

Despite all odds, Jackson stands tall and defiant - never once forgetting the responsibility and power that comes with garnering a massive platform. Jackson has proven that his identity as a Black actor is one he takes seriously in terms of both promoting racial equality and equity, especially when it comes to Hollywood. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Jackson speaks out and blatantly condemns Rogan's ignorant excuses to justify him using the N-word. Jackson stated, “There is no context where a white person is ever allowed to say that word, never mind publicly on a podcast. He is saying nobody understood the context when he said it, but he shouldn’t have said it. It’s not the context dude, it’s that he was comfortable doing it. Say that you’re sorry because you want to keep your money, but you were having fun, and you say you did it because it was entertaining. It needs to be an element of what the story is about - a story is context, but just to elicit a laugh, that’s wrong.”

Rogan is no stranger to criticism and verbal disputes. Throughout his comedy and television career, he has made numerous claims and controversial statements that he later ends up having to go back and apologize for, or provide further clarity. The public has seen him go head-to-head with many public figures for his public outbursts. Now, he is back in the spotlight after artist India Arie shared a video compilation of every time Rogan used the N-Word on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. It’s alarming and incredibly discomforting that a white person feels as though they have the right to say the N-Word even in private, let alone on national air. The video clip showcased Rogan saying the N-Word over 20 times, which has led to numerous backlashes from both avid listeners and big Hollywood celebrities - including Dwayne Johnson.

Jackson's viewpoint on a story needing appropriate context in order to justify using the N-Word goes way back, as he has often spoken out about Tarantino's frequent, almost casual use of the word in his films. Jackson is incredibly on the nail for calling out Rogan's repeated use of a racial slur for the sole sake of monetary gain and a few laughs. It’s sickening that white people, especially ones with such a strong platform in society, are still not only using it often but denying any accountability. A simple fake apology for the sake of the press is at least cordial, but Rogan wasn’t even willing to deliver that. Rogan claims his fans will “understand his misstep," saying that they will know that he was just trying to be funny, but as Jackson clarified, this is not a joke, it's just merely a white person using a racial slur because he feels as though he can and for some giggles, the epitome of white privilege.
