One of the most popular gameplay elements of farming simulator Stardew Valley is the ability to find love with one of 12 bachelors and bachelorettes living in Pelican Town. Once Stardew Valley players have chosen a spouse, said spouse moves onto their farm, allowing for further home expansions and the ability to have children. Further content updates by creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone added new features and abilities to spouses - they can now water crops, cook food, and even decorate rooms in the home to suit their own preferences.

Marrying one of the 12 available bachelors is no easy process. Players must talk to them and bring them gifts until they have reached maximum friendship level, at which time they can present their intended with first a Bouquet to ask them out and later a Mermaid's Pendant as a proposal. The Mermaid's Pendant is a unique item that can only be purchased from a mysterious sailor who hangs out on the beach on rainy days. Later, if players are dissatisfied with their choice of spouse, they can choose to divorce them and remarry. If they want a completely fresh start, a player can even pay the evil Witch to turn their children into doves and leave them single and unattached once again.

However, most Stardew Valley players choose instead to commit to a single spouse. Some, such as Reddit user u/discosbenji, even re-design their home and farm to best suit their spouse's interests and personality. After marrying the coffee-loving town doctor Harvey, u/discosbenji added green and brown wallpaper and flooring to their in-game home to match the color scheme of Harvey's trademark outfit. The Reddit user also converted a Large Shed into a coffee-producing factory, filling it with potted coffee bean bushes and coffee-producing kegs. Finally, they added comfy couches, low tables, and packed-full bookshelves to the shed to create a cozy cafe-like aesthetic.

Unfortunately, Harvey will never actually visit the cafe without the help of mods, as spouses do not wander around the farm or enter buildings in the base version of the game. As Barone has shifted gears to work on his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier, it is unlikely that a future update will allow Harvey to see his cafe. However, it is still very likely that Harvey appreciates the gesture, as he is one of the few characters in Stardew Valley to list coffee among his Loved Gifts.

Reddit user u/discosbenji is far from the only Stardew Valley player to express their devotion to their chosen spouse in a unique and creative way. Members of the Stardew Valley community have redesigned their favorite bachelors or bachelorettes, painted their portraits, created mods that give them additional dialogue and events, and more.

Stardew Valley is currently available for Android, iOS, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
