Free games and Xbox Live Gold go hand-in-hand as the services regularly offers its subscribers chances to experience a wide variety of games free of charge for a limited period of time. The service's popular "Free Play Days" has allowed players to get their hands on many of gaming's hottest titles like Rainbow Six Siege and Battlefield 2042 for free for a whole weekend, while typically offering discounts on featured games as well. Now, Xbox's weekend gaming initiative has announced the 'Free Play Days' games for this weekend, featuring fan-favorites from Ubisoft and Sega.
Xbox's various services offers a wide variety of opportunities for players to get more bang for their buck with plenty offering access to games in exchange for their subscription. Microsoft's popular Xbox Game Pass allows players to access a library of over 100 full games for a small monthly fee with new games constantly being added, while its flagship console's Gold membership often gives players limited-time free trials. For the last weekend of January, Xbox Live Gold's Free Play Days themes itself on strategy and war as it features For Honor and Valkyria Chronicles 4 free for the weekend.
The official announcement from Xbox reveals that players with Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold will be able to play both For Honor and Valkyria Chronicles 4 for free this weekend, starting at 12:01 AM PST on Thursday and running through 11:59 PM PST on Sunday. Players can obtain their free copies of the game through Xbox.com and the Microsoft store on PC or through the Gold member area of the Xbox Store to download on the console.
The Free Play Days promotion will also feature significant discounts throughout the event allowing players who enjoyed the games to continue playing even after the promotion ends. For Honor's standard edition is discounted to just $4.50 USD, an 85% discount from its standard price, and many of the game's expansions and bundles come in under $10 after discounts of 70% and more. Valkyria Chronicles 4 will also feature discounts for both the Standard and Complete Editions with their prices slashed to $12 and $15, respectively.
The free period comes just after For Honor revealed the Pirate class as the final new character of the game's fifth season. Both titles are no stranger to Xbox's frequent free games promotions with both games featured in past weekends of the Free Play Days program and the standard edition of For Honor available through Xbox Game Pass. Between the chaotic action of For Honor and the strategic complexities of Valkyria Chronicles 4, this weekend's Free Play Days should have a little something to appeal to a wide variety of players.
