After a tense and strenuous week, let’s all exhale with an uplifting story about the power of video games: Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the distribution rights to Alex Helfrecht's A Winter’s Tale, a movie which is being partly painted in PlayStation 4 game Dreams. The extraordinary film is set in Bavaria during 1812, and follows the tale of a lovelorn poet who “undertakes a hazardous walk across mountains, ice, and snow”.
Deadline explains: “Painted by the animation artists behind the Oscar-nominated Loving Vincent, A Winter’s Journey is a romantic and epic tale which blends live action with CG and painted animation. The world of the film is the first to be built using PlayStation’s Dreams, developed by PlayStation Studios’ multiple-BAFTA-winning games studio Media Molecule.” You can see some of the work on the film’s official Twitter page.
Inspired by Franz Schubert’s Winterreise, a spokesperson for Sony Pictures Classics said: “We’ve never quite seen a project like A Winter’s Journey before, which promises to marry world class cinema and extraordinary painting techniques with one of the great song cycles in musical history. Audiences will joyously embrace this unique theatrical experience.”
Producer Jörg Tittel has since confirmed that both PlayStation and Media Molecule are now helping out with the project, which is just phenomenal really, isn’t it?

Kinda crazy really.
Dreams really needs a PS5 update, I hope it gets one and continues to be a platform for these amazing creators who use it. I'd love to get into it but I dont have that kind of mindset, however I love to see what people can do with it. The game deserves to live-on on PS5 and benefit from the boost in power. I bet a PS5 version will see AA standard games being made in it!
A PS5 version would definitely be great, but to be fair, it's already pretty damn optimised on PS4.

Never picked it up, but it's on sale again, now - so if I'm not interested in creating and only in playing, is there a lot of good content in Dreams, or will I burn through the good stuff in a weekend? Does it cost extra?
@RobN it's a really good game and yes there's a lot of content and you will have to use the search tag to narrow down game genres etc just in the horror sections there's hundreds of created games and video shorts.
There's also a website where you can search the games and add them to a play list which will appear in game next time you log in

Also media molecule themselves add their own created games that do take a couple hours to complete each, also a short story mode for you to play
Really interested to see it when it's finished. I thought what MM did in Dreams with the single player was impressive.
Out of all the games Sony is porting over to PC why on earth haven't they ported this game?

@RawnDawn I was one of the people that thought this game would light the sales on fire and should be kept an exclusive.
I think it's done well enough, but I'm now realising what a PC port could do and agree, port to PC and give us a PS5 version. With the expanded capabilities of the PS5 hardware, the super fast storage and larger memory could mean easier to create open world sized levels and it will be easier in general, especially with community assets.
You can dream the magic in Dreams or play the magic of others' Dreams.
I agree with the suggestions to have Dreams on PC. It would be a important step to the game as a development tool. With this port, maybe Sony could work toward integrating Dreams with other development environments like Unity and Unreal Engine and letting developers import/export creations between both.
If Sony play its cards right, Dreams could very well become a place for small independent developers as important as big ones like Steam and mobile stores. But Sony will have to provide monetization solutions for developers that choose to release their creations in Dreams.
