This year's D.I.C.E. Awards is coming up at the end of February in Las Vegas, and while the MMORPG category isn't super represented one game is up for two of the major awards this year: Final Fantasy 14.
The 25th Annual D.I.C.E (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards saw 51 different games nominated this year with voter's beginning to make their selections last night. Many of the award categories are much like we'd see at Geoff Keighley's Game Awards, though D.I.C.E. typically also celebrates some of the technical and design aspects of game development instead of just the "best" games in a certain category.
One of the games to take the industry by storm last year was Final Fantasy 14, so seeing the Square Enix-developed MMORPG on the list of nominees is no real shock. This is an MMO that got so popular that the developer had to stop selling it - twice - last year to deal with the hordes of players eager to check it out.
FFXIV is up for two awards, though, both the Role Playing Game of the Year as well as Online Game of the Year. Games like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous , Tales of Arise, Wildermyth and others are competing for RPG of the year, while Halo: Infinite, Back 4 Blood and others are vying for Online GotY. Other categories at this year'd D.I.C.E. Awards include Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Family Game of the Year, and the obligatory Game of the Year, which sees many of the same nominees from this year's Game Awards present.
