Developer Shiro Games is opening up and answering community questions about the upcoming game Dune: Spice Wars, which will be published by Funcom. There’s a brand new FAQ out today answering some of the most commonly asked questions since the game was announced.

Dune: Spice Wars is an RTS with 4X elements. It is based in the Frank Herbert Dune universe from the novels. Shiro also developed Northgard, and one question asks about the similarities between the two. Both games are different according to the developer, but Dune is “on a much bigger scale, featuring politics, trading, covert operations, and a deeper resource management system“. They also add that this game will be about 2 to 3 times longer than Northgard, as of the current planning.

They’ve already announced that players will have access to two factions, the houses Harkonnen and Atreides. These are two of the playable factions, with two others to be available at launch, and a fifth coming in Early Access.

Ultimately, the questions answered by the developer give a look into what we can expect from the game. Given that everything is based on what’s in the books, there was a question whether other Dune games had any influence and the team acknowledges that there may be some influences but this game is it’s own thing and they believe it has a unique take on the fight for control over Arrakis.

There will be multiplayer, and the goal is to add it during Early Access, because their focus right now is just to get the core game ready. Shiro Games also plans a campaign but that will also be later after Early Access.

If the announcement of the game piqued your curiosity, this gives us a much better idea of how things will be taking shape and what we can expect from development updates. For more, check out the full FAQ on the Dune: Spice Wars Steam page. The developers plan to continue posting updates on there answering community questions over the coming months.
