Square Enix has finally confirmed a firm date for the new Oceanic data center for Final Fantasy XIV: January 25, 2022. Confirmed on the game’s official news site, the datacenter, which has been planned “for some time,” is going to get a “little sudden” release in just over a week.

So here’s the deal: we’re actually getting two bonus worlds (servers) immediately. The original concept was for Square Enix to launch the Oceanic center with three worlds, then add two more at a later date. But “in light of the recent flux of players,” they’re just launching all five at once.

The company notes that “there should be more than enough room for everyone in Oceania to transfer over. Those in Oceania who have struggled with network latency issues should also have a better play experience.” They’re waiving the transfer fee, and will have “incentives to transfer.” Those incentives have been detailed, and a few of them are pretty big for new character creation! You can find them below, but note that “these incentives will remain in place until the active player populations of the Worlds in question have grown to a specified number.”

If you actually do want to transfer to the new Oceanic data center, you can do it on January 26, which is when home world transfers open back up. Square Enix is deliberately doing it the day after the Oceanic measures are in place, to ensure a smoother launch.

Note that Japan, North America, and Europe are all getting data center expansions too. The “first phase” of that starts in August 2022, with the second phase coming in “spring or summer” of 2023. There’s also a mysterious “larger scale upgrade” scheduled to arrive by 7.0 (the next expansion), presumably in late 2023 or early 2024.

You can find all of the information for the new data center below, including all the new world names!
