Ubisoft has dropped a new video for Rainbow Six Extraction, explaining the upcoming shooter’s endgame Maelstrom Protocol mode.

Maelstrom will be a tough-as-nails challenge mode, intended for those who have fully levelled up their Operators. Those who choose to take the challenge on will be able to nab exclusive cosmetics for their trouble. There’ll also be lucrative XP and REACT credit awards up for grabs.

Some of this was covered in an Ubisoft blog post from November but to recap: you’ll have a whopping 9 objectives to complete in a region, up from the main game’s three. Every three you do complete, the challenge will get harder, reducing refill stations and reducing your time limit.

You’ll also only be able to select from a pool of six specific Operators, which will rotate on a weekly basis. Any Operators you lose on a Maelstrom run, you’ll have to return to the main game to rescue them. As well as the operators, the objectives and mutations will also rotate weekly. This will allow you to try and perfect your runs over the week to get the best rewards.

You can check out the full video for yourself down below. The Rainbow Six Extraction Maelstrom Protocol mode will be available when the game launches next week, on January 20. It’ll be on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC and if you missed the news, will also be on Xbox Game Pass too.
