The Witcher has become incredibly popular in recent years, with the success of the third game sparking renewed interest in the books and creating hype for the Netflix adaptation. With the show now in its second Season, enough iconic characters from The Witcher universe exist for a proper comparison video to be made.

Instead of comparing the versions of the characters from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to their Netflix counterparts, Redditor TeamElderBlood shared a video that places the television and Gwent versions side-by-side. For those unfamiliar with Gwent, it is the card game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that went on to become a standalone title due to its immense popularity. As it has expanded, cards have been included for characters that were important in the books but did not feature in the third game - meaning there is a card for nearly every character from the show.

At the start of the comparison video, a neat shot of Geralt on horseback while Dandelion walks next to him is seen - an image that perfectly lines up with a Gwent card. From there, characters are compared to Gwent artwork one-by-one, with some catchy music from the card game playing in the background. The first comparison is obviously Geralt, with Henry Cavill’s take on the beloved Witcher shown right next to the version from Gwent. Ciri and Yennefer are shown next, with Jaskier following.

Triss Merigold and Tissaia are showcased in the video, with Stregobor and Istredd also being shown. The Netflix versions of these two characters are noticeably similar to the ones in the Gwent cards, which is interesting. Fringilla is noticeably different in the two adaptations, on the other hand, as she is a different race and has a completely different hairstyle. Vilgefortz sports facial hair, something that he does not have on his card. Coral looks similar while Sabrina looks a bit different, showing that the show’s characters sometimes look like they do in CD Projekt Red’s universe and at other times look more unique.

With the video being two minutes long, there many more comparisons are made. Filavandrel and Vesemir look similar in Gwent and the show, while Cahir and Lambert look very different. Francesca is another example of two very similar designs, while Dijkstra is the opposite. As for the monsters, the versions from the two universes look very similar. The Striga, Nivellen, and Urcheon all stand out as examples of the shared designs, showing that both the games and the show have done a fine job of adapting the monsters from the books.

Overall, the video is a fun watch for fans of The Witcher franchise, as it highlights how similar and different the show and games really are. With more seasons of The Witcher planned and a new game likely to come one day, fans should see plenty more of all the characters featured in the video.
