Babble Royale turns Scrabble into a heated battle royale

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can win you a chicken dinner

The battle royale trend may not be over yet, and one of its newest interpretations is a strange pairing that somehow really works. Babble Royale is, if you boil it down, Scrabble meets battle royale. It’s also got a lot more going on than you might think.

16 players drop into the wild for a war of words, with the victor emerging as the last scribe standing. You stay alive by staying within the circle that’s pressing down on the board. And you can eliminate players by breaking into their own words.

Babble Royale is developed by the creators of idle game Universal Paperclips and Hey Robot over at Everybody House Games. And much like the Paperclips, Babble Royale seems primed for eating up your time.

It’s hard to forget the era of Words With Friends, and I dig how Babble Royale reimagines the classic word-crafting game with a battle royale twist. The nice part is, while it’s in early access, it’s also free to play. So if you want to give your word-finding skills a test, you can download it on Steam right now and find out how verbose you truly are.

Babble Royale will be in early access, and over the next few months, Everybody House Games says it will be expanding the experience with new content and features. Right now seems like a good time to get in on the ground floor of this word combat experience. Or at least, receive a sobering reminder of your actual Scrabble skills.
