PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst has announced that Sony has acquired support studio Valkyrie Entertainment.

According to Hulst, as part of the PlayStation Studios family Valkyrie will continue in their support role. He says they’ll be “making invaluable contributions to key PlayStation Studios franchises”. Hulst made the announcement via his Twitter account over the weekend.

While not responsible for many games themselves, the team has been a very prolific support studio. As GamesIndustry.biz notes, a lot of this work has been with Sony, including Infamous 2 and both the 2018 God of War and its upcoming sequel God of War: Ragnarok.

However, the studio has also worked extensively with other studios, as well as some first party titles for Microsoft. These include the first five Forza Motorsport games and, most recently, Halo Infinite.

PlayStation Studios have been very busy welcoming new members of the family this past year. In no particular order, they’ve acquired Returnal developer Housemarque, Demon Souls remake studio Bluepoint Games, PC specialists Nixxes and former Studio Liverpool outfit Firesprite. Most recently, the last of those also included the acquisition of Fabrik Games.

The next game we’re likely to see Valkyrie Entertainment’s handiwork in is the aforementioned God of War: Ragnarok, scheduled for launch in some point in 2022.
